Recently a video has gone viral, which has been viewed more than 9 lakh times, in which drivers are making many complaints like delay in payment.
Vinfast-backed Green SM recently launched its electric taxi service, providing a steady income for drivers and a hassle-free experience for passengers. The taxi service was first launched in the Delhi-NCR region and there are plans to launch it in other cities in a phased manner. However, a video recently shared online shows a group of Green SM drivers complaining about a number of issues with the taxi service. As of now, it is not sure if this is a widespread issue or limited to certain drivers.
Complaints against Green SM
Unlike other taxi operators like Ola, Uber and others, Green SM has taken a different approach to its taxi service. Apart from deploying an all-electric fleet (Limo Green), the brand also promises professional services for passengers. Another benefit for commuters is that there are no surge charges or time-based peak-hour charges. Green SM also wants to benefit drivers by helping them earn regular income.

However, as a recent video shows, the reality on the ground may be different, especially for Green SM drivers. According to the advertised payment plan, Green SM drivers were promised a guaranteed income of up to Rs 40,000. However, the drivers say that nothing like this has happened. One of the major complaints is related to delayed payments. This particular group of drivers say they have been driving taxis for 3-4 weeks. However, he has not received any payment yet.
Another common issue reported is receiving less money than promised. A driver said that after working for 20 days he got only Rs 700. Another driver alleged that only around Rs 1,100 was credited to his account. Drivers have also reported that they get only 33% of the fare, whereas the company had promised about 35% of the fare per trip.
Complaints are also being received about frequent changes in the company’s policies. Some drivers said new rules governing the eligibility criteria for the Minimum Guaranteed Income Scheme have been introduced. According to the drivers, they were promised Rs 35,000 per month for the first two months, no matter how many trips or bookings were completed. There are also complaints of insufficient balance in FASTag, forcing drivers to pay toll from their own pockets.
What to expect next?
Green SM Taxi Service is positioned as a game changer with a focus on benefiting all stakeholders. Fully electric fleet, corporate-style professional services and stable income for drivers are among the key USPs. However, if the allegations made by the drivers are true, it raises concerns about the long-term sustainability of the taxi service. Vinfast has extensive experience in operating similar services in other countries, and hopes an effective solution can be achieved.
Better clarity will emerge once we get an official response to these allegations. Taxi and auto services in the country have always been affected by competing interests. There have been many issues such as overcharging, refusal of rides, surge charges etc. Passengers would hope that alleged driver issues reported with Green SM Taxi Services will be resolved amicably.
