India’s passenger vehicle market recorded good demand in February 2026, with the top 25 best-selling cars accounting for a total of 3,19,866 units. This represents a year-on-year growth of 16.28% compared to 2,75,073 units sold in February 2025. Strong demand for SUVs continued to shape the market, with a number of utility vehicles dominating the top ranks.

Tata Nexon, including its EV variant, emerged as the best-selling car in February 2026 with sales of 19,430 units, a 26.59% year-on-year growth compared to 15,349 units last year. Lagging behind was Maruti Dezire, which registered 19,326 units, a growth of 31.52% YoY. The strong performance reflects continued demand for compact sedans despite the overall market shift toward SUVs. In third place was the Tata Punch, which also included an EV version, with 18,748 units, up 28.77% year-on-year.

Hyundai Creta with its recently introduced EV version took the fourth position with 17,938 units, registering a growth of 9.93%. Maruti’s compact SUV Brezza stood second with 17,863 units, up 16.05%. Meanwhile, Maruti Ertiga continued its strong performance in the MPV segment with 17,807 units, showing a growth of 19.77% compared to the same month last year.

An increase was not recorded in all models. Maruti Wagon R, which has been a consistent top seller in the past, slipped to seventh place with 14,885 units, a decline of 25.12% year-on-year. Similarly, Swift sales declined by 8.83% to 14,833 units, while Baleno sales declined by 5.48% to 14,632 units. One of the biggest declines was seen with the Maruti Suzuki Swift, which recorded 13,898 units, down 35.24% compared to February 2025.

SUV dominance continues

Mahindra’s SUV lineup continues to perform well. The Scorpio/Scorpio-N recorded 14,665 units, while the Thar/Thar Rocks posted 11,047 units, growing 19.45% year-on-year. Kia Seltos witnessed strong growth in demand with 10,308 units, representing a significant growth of 59.91% year-on-year. Kia Sonet also performed well with 9,750 units, up 28.32% year-on-year. Toyota’s SUV hybrid recorded the highest growth rate in the list, with sales rising to 9,359 units, more than double from last year.

Several newly launched models also made it to the top 25 list. The Victories recorded 13,021 units, while the Tata Sierra, whose deliveries began recently, recorded 7,100 units during the month. Tata Motors has announced that Sierra deliveries, which began on January 15, 2026, have already crossed the 10k milestone.

Other notable performers include Mahindra Bolero (9,863 units), Maruti Alto (9,787 units), Mahindra XUV700 (9,112 units), and Toyota Innova Crysta/HiCross (8,703 units). The list also includes Mahindra XUV3XO/EV (8,637 units) and Tata Tiago/EV (7,040 units).

Performance as per OEM in Top 25

Maruti Suzuki continued to dominate the top 25 car sales chart in February 2026 with 1,47,672 units. The 11 Maruti cars in the list, including models like Dezire, Brezza, Ertiga, Wagon R, Swift and Baleno, helped it maintain its leadership position. However, its year-on-year growth of 6.95% was relatively moderate compared to some rivals, reflecting increasing competition in the SUV sector.

Among other OEMs, Mahindra (5 cars) and Tata Motors (4 cars) emerged as the fastest growing brands, mainly supported by strong SUV demand. Mahindra recorded 53,324 units, while Tata Motors stood second with 52,318 units driven by Nexon and Punch volumes. Kia (2 cars) and Toyota (2 cars) recorded the highest growth rates due to strong demand for models like Seltos, Sonet and Hyder. Meanwhile, Hyundai (2 cars) sales stood at 28,432 units, mainly supported by sales of Creta and Venue.
