
BYD India has shared a new teaser on its social media channels, hinting at the arrival of its DM-i plug-in hybrid technology for the Indian market. Prominently mentioned in the teaser “BYD DM-i” and “Super Plug-in Hybrid EV”This is the first official indication that BYD may introduce a PHEV in India soon.

Unlike conventional hybrids where the petrol engine often plays the dominant role, the DM-i system primarily prioritizes electric driving using the internal combustion engine to extend range and aid efficiency.
The teaser itself highlights this philosophy with the line: “Super Intelligent Efficient Electric Beyond Hybrid.” Globally, BYD positions the DM-i as a bridge between traditional hybrids and full EVs. Its price is likely to be between Rs 45-50 lakh.

Atto 2 DM-i may also be in trend
However, the teaser may not be the only thing hinting at Sealion 6. The BYD Atto 2 was previously spotted testing in India, and globally, the compact SUV is also available with DM-i plug-in hybrid technology.
Internationally, the Atto 2DM-i is positioned as a compact plug-in hybrid SUV built on an electric-first platform. It combines EV-like driving characteristics with petrol engine backup for long-range utility. Depending on the variant, it offers a pure EV range of up to 90 km with very high fuel efficiency figures.

Globally, the Atto 2 DM-i gets features like a rotating touchscreen infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, connected technology and multiple battery options. it is more Compact footprint (4.3 meters long) This could be made more suitable for urban Indian buyers compared to the larger Celeron 6. BYD is expanding beyond pure EVs in India

With DM-i technology, BYD is set to diversify beyond pure EVs and enter the plug-in hybrid segment as well.
