Triumph Motorcycles and Bajaj Auto are working on a new retro and classic motorcycle to take on the hugely successful Royal Enfield Classic 350. The model in question takes inspiration from the Triumph Bonneville T100 and T120 and may be called the Bonneville 400. This has been seen abroad and then in India also.
Now, a new Triumph Bonneville 400 test mule has been spied, which is a bit different from the previously seen unit. This new test mule is sportier and also gets a headlight cowl for a more roadster look. Let’s check out the possibilities.
Sportier Triumph Bonneville 400 spied testing
A sportier version of the upcoming Triumph Bonneville 400 (name not confirmed) has been spotted testing on public roads in India. This suggests that Triumph and Bajaj may launch the Bonneville 400 in multiple variants to attract a wider audience. Rivals also offer similar strategies.
The price of this particular test mule may be slightly lower than the previously seen Bonneville 400 test mule with many chrome highlights. These include chrome rear grab rail, chrome handlebar, chrome exhaust and silver finish on the engine casing. All or most of these are missing from this latest test mule.
Additionally, the latest test mule appears to have a headlight cowl at the front, suggesting that it is likely to resemble a little roadster. The previous test mule did not have tail lights with chrome highlights, which can be seen with the latest test mule, which is neatly mounted on the rear fender. The P-shooter exhaust and rear grab rail get a matte black finish.

The Bonneville 400 is the first Triumph 400 range of motorcycles to get a twin rear shock absorber suspension setup with a new subframe. The instrument cluster on the Triumph Bonneville 400 will be an all-new unit. It is circular in shape and seems like a completely digital unit that can have a crisp TFT screen or a simple LCD unit.
Although it is not visible, we wish the base variant of the Triumph Bonneville 400 got an analog tacho and speedo for that charming retro appeal. Further enhancing its retro look are the RSU telescopic front fork with fork gaiter, wire-spoke wheels with tube-type tyres, a retro single-piece seat circular headlights and other elements.
There are disc brakes at both ends and is expected to have dual-channel ABS. Like the latest updated Triumph 400 range, the upcoming Triumph Bonneville 400 will come with a 398cc engine for global markets and a 349cc engine for India. One can guess that the power and torque metrics will be similar to the Speed T4, mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
