The segment was boosted by electric 3W sales, which remained strong with 59.61% retail market share in January 2026 compared to its petrol, diesel and CNG counterparts.
A total of 1,27,134 units were sold in the three wheeler (3W) segment in January 2026. This was a year-on-year increase of 18.80% compared to 1,07,013 units sold in January 2025. It was also a strong performance on a year-on-year basis with 11,36,501 units sold in the FY26 period, up 10.62% from 10,27,347 units sold in the same period last year.
The segment-wise breakup on 3W retail sales shows double digit growth year-on-year in e-rickshaws (14.51%), e-rickshaws with carts (33.29%) and 3W also shows strong performance among luggage (17.86%), passenger (20.65%) and personal (40.23%).
OEMwise 3W Retail Sales Jan 2026
On an OEM basis, it was Bajaj Auto that led the segment with sales of 44,980 units in January 2026. This was a healthy year-on-year increase compared to 39,492 units in January 2025. Bajaj Auto has recently introduced Wego Electric. It is priced at Rs 4.41 lakh (ex-showroom) and offers a range of 296 km. It is the largest electric three-wheeler in the country, while it also has the longest certified range in the segment.
Piaggio ranked second with sales of 8,543 units, a year-on-year increase from 7,906 units, while market share declined to 6.72% from 7.39% a year ago. Piaggio Ape Xtra Bada 700 and Ape Xtra 600 are making rapid strides in the diesel cargo three-wheeler segment.
Retail sales of Mahindra 3W increased from 6,931 units to 8,227 units year-on-year. This was a volume increase of 2,813 units. Mahindra Last Mile Mobility recently launched the UDO electric auto, which aims to redefine the segment. High volume improvement was also recorded by TVS Motor, whose sales increased from 2,704 units in January 2025 to 5,517 units last month, taking the market share to 4.34%.
Sub 5,000 3W retail sales January 2026
In the sub-Rs 5,000 segment, Atul Auto sold 3,278 units in January 2026, while Zeniac Innovation added 2,422 units to the total retail sales. Both these three-wheeler manufacturers have recorded strong year-on-year growth. On a year-on-year basis, YC Electric’s sales declined to 2,415 units from 3,880 units, while Delhi Electric’s sales also declined to 1,916 units from 1,925 units. Hooghly Motors’ retail sales, on the other hand, increased by 379 units year-on-year to 1,696 units. Demand for Saira also declined to 1,614 units in January 2026, compared to 2,271 units sold in the same month last year.
Ahana Commerce, with a portfolio that includes electric 3W passenger and cargo offering including Ahana Ultra, SS, Maxi, Eeco and Power House-3, saw its sales jump to 1,378 units last month from just 391 units sold in January 2025. There were also other 3W OEMs that added 45,148 units to total retail sales last month, up from 37,569 units sold in January 2025.
