Yamaha Motor India Pvt Ltd has on sale the country’s most popular and ambitious small capacity supersport motorcycle. We are talking about Yamaha YZF-R15, commonly known as R15. Despite the premium pricing strategy, it enjoys a massive fan following and a strong selling proposition.
For the month of May 2026, Yamaha R15 has increased the prices of the R15, making it costlier for the buyers. This price increase is effective immediately and will be passed on to the buyers. Let’s take a closer look at the details.
Yamaha R15 price hike in May 2026
Yamaha Motor India’s 155 cc portfolio has been a key portfolio that customers have been demanding. The lineup features the XSR 155 at the bottom, starting at Rs 1.5 lakh, the MT-15 in the middle, starting at Rs 1.63 lakh and the R15 at the top, now starting at Rs 1.71 lakh (all prices ex-sh).

From May 2026, new prices for the Yamaha R15 come into effect, leading to a price increase of Rs 4,900. This price increase could be due to rising input costs for the company, the burden of which appears to be passed on to customers. With this price hike, the Yamaha R15 is now priced between Rs 1.71 lakh and Rs 1.76 lakh (ex-sh).
The higher-spec R15 M has seen a similar increase in price and is now priced between Rs 1.86 lakh and Rs 1.96 lakh (ex-sh). Many motorcycle enthusiasts believe that the Yamaha R15 is priced premium and the revised prices for May 2026 may increase further for this demographic as it hovers closer to Rs 2 lakh.
As far as equipment is concerned, the R15 M brings more to the table as it comes with Bluetooth connectivity with navigation and a sought-after TFT instrument cluster with more modern features. Other notable elements include the quick-shifter (uni-directional for up-shifting), LED turn indicators and the R1-inspired paint scheme.

competition investigation
Where competition is concerned, the immediate rival of the Yamaha R15 is the new KTM RC 160, priced at Rs 1.85 lakh, offered in three colors and a single trim with all the features and equipment. The Yamaha R15 also matches the Hero Karizma XMR 210 in terms of price (Rs 1.84 lakh), despite it having a bigger engine and much better performance.
Despite the premium pricing and small engine and low performance, the Yamaha R15 is a sales phenomenon and buyers keep queuing up to buy it. The popular 155cc liquid-cooled engine with VVA technology along with the R1-inspired design and aesthetics are the two biggest strengths of this motorcycle.
