Marco Rubio India Visit Live Updates: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Kolkata this morning to begin his four-day visit to India, his first visit to the country since assuming office last year. US Ambassador Sergio Gore said that Rubio is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi today.
The top US diplomat will also hold talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday and attend the Quad foreign ministers’ meeting in Delhi on Tuesday. He is also expected to visit Agra and Jaipur.
“There’s a lot to work on with India; they’re a great ally and partner. We work very well with them, so it’s an important trip,” he said of his visit to India on Friday.
The two sides are also expected to discuss the US-Iran war and its economic impact including energy supplies and the recent tensions over the US imposing tariffs on India.
Rubio’s visit is expected to serve as a high-level effort to put the partnership back on a stronger footing, with both US President Donald Trump and PM Modi considered personally invested in maintaining the momentum in bilateral ties.
