
Top 10 Cars and Top 15 SUVs April 2026 – Dezire leads cars, Punch tops SUV segment
With strong demand across hatchbacks, sedans, MPVs and SUVs, India’s passenger vehicle market recorded healthy growth in April 2026. The list of top 10 cars recorded combined sales of 1,83,498 units, registering a strong growth of 23.31% YoY as compared to 1,48,809 units sold in April 2025. SUVs continued to dominate buyers’ choices even more aggressively, registering sales of 1,92,637 units in the top 15 SUV list, up 28.49% YoY.
Top 10 Cars April 2026
Maruti Dezire emerged as India’s best-selling passenger vehicle with sales of 23,580 units in April 2026. Compared to 16,996 units sold in April last year, the Dezire registered a healthy growth of 38.74% year-on-year. Strong fleet demand coupled with increasing private buyer interest following the latest generation update continues to support Dzire’s performance.

Tata Punch, including Punch EV, took the second position with sales of 19,107 units, registering a huge growth of 52.90% as compared to 12,496 units sold last year. The Punch is benefiting from strong demand in the compact SUV segment along with increasing EV acceptance. Maruti Ertiga remained India’s best-selling MPV with sales of 19,063 units and 20.80% YoY growth. The Bronx took the second position with 18,829 units, a growth of 31.26% YoY, while the Wagon R and Baleno continued to perform strongly with a growth of 39.03% and 38.89% respectively.
Tata Nexon, including Nexon EV, recorded sales of 18,126 units, up 17.27% year-on-year. Maruti Swift took the eighth position with 17,829 units and a growth of 22.18% following a strong response to the new generation model. Hyundai Creta sales, including Creta EV, declined 10.14% to 15,291 units, while Mahindra Scorpio and Scorpio N sales declined 5.25% to 14,719 units. Despite the decline, both SUVs remain India’s best-selling utility vehicles.

Top 15 SUVs April 2026
The SUV segment continued to dominate the Indian market and Tata Punch led the charts with 19,107 units. Maruti Suzuki took the second position with 18,829 units, while Tata Nexon stood second with 18,126 units. Despite sales falling to 15,291 units, Hyundai Creta remained among the segment leaders. Mahindra Scorpio range stood at fifth position with 14,719 units. Maruti Brezza saw one of the sharpest declines in sales, falling 16.78% year-on-year to 14,124 units.

A major highlight was the entry of Maruti Victoris, which recorded 13,701 units during the month. Since it was not on sale in April 2025, no year-on-year comparison is available. Hyundai Venue recorded a strong growth of 56.17% with sales of 12,420 units. Kia’s SUV performed strongly in April 2026. Seltos registered 10,566 units with an impressive growth of 72.22%, while Sonet added 10,537 units with a growth of 30.60%. Mahindra Thar and Thar Rocks together sold 10,459 units.
Toyota Hayrider emerged as one of the fastest growing SUVs in the country with 96.36% YoY growth and sales of 9,115 units. Mahindra Bolero continued its steady performance with 8,917 units, while XUV 7XO registered a growth of 26.71% at 8,630 units. Hyundai Exeter joins the top 15 SUV list with 8,096 units and a good growth of 49.48%.
