Kawasaki has updated its entry-level off-road lineup with revised pricing and seating ergonomics, making it friendlier to younger riders. We’re talking about the updated 2027 Kawasaki KLX230 lineup, which has just been expanded to include the new KLX230R S, which now serves as the most affordable KLX model, but is no longer street legal.
With this update, the company has also increased the prices, making them more expensive than before. The 2027 range now includes only the off-road (not road legal) KLX230R S, followed by the standard KLX230 and KLX230 S.
2027 Kawasaki KLX230 launched
In terms of pricing, the off-road only KLX230R S is priced at Rs 1.89 lakh (ex-sh), which is now an increase of Rs 10,000 over the previous model. The KLX230 and the recently launched KLX230 S are priced at the same price, which is Rs 2.19 lakh (ex-sh). It should be noted that the KLX230 used to be priced at Rs 1.84 lakh, making it around Rs 35,000 more expensive.

What differentiates the S version of the KLX230 from the standard version is the revised ergonomics. The primary change is with the seat height, which has been reduced from 880 mm to 830 mm. This is a 50mm reduction that shorter riders and small off-road lovers will definitely appreciate.
The KLX230 S’s lower seat height directly results in reduced suspension travel, which is now 160 mm at the front and 163 mm at the rear. In contrast, the standard KLX230 suspension travel is 220 mm at the front and 223 mm at the rear. Another by-product of this revised seat height is a lower ground clearance of 220 mm, down from 255 mm of the standard KLX230.
The more hardcore off-road motorcycle of this trio, the 2027 KLX230R S gets even more ground clearance and seat height than the standard KLX230. It has a massive seat height of 900 mm with 270 mm of ground clearance. It doesn’t bother with road legal components and removes the headlights, ORVMs, turn indicators and other elements.

The same 233cc air-cooled engine continues
No matter which variant of the Kawasaki KLX230 you choose, they are powered by the same 233cc single cylinder air-cooled engine that produces 19 bhp of maximum power and 19 Nm of maximum torque, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Deliveries of the KLX230R S will begin around August 2026 and the deliveries of the other two variants (KLX230, KLX230 S) will begin around September.
