
Sub 4 meter SUV sales in India recorded good year-on-year growth in April 2026. Total segment sales stood at 1,19,144 units, up from 1,02,845 units sold in April 2025, resulting in a volume growth of 16,299 units and year-on-year growth of 15.85%.
Sub 4 meter SUV sales April 2026
Tata Punch, including EV sales, emerged as the best-selling sub 4 meter SUV with sales of 19,107 units in April 2026. Compared to 12,496 units sold in April last year, Punch registered a strong growth of 52.90%. The share of SUV in the segment was 16.04%.

Maruti Suzuki took the second position with sales of 18,829 units. Frontex registered a growth of 31.26% year-on-year and sales of 4,484 units as against 14,345 units in April 2025. Tata Nexon, including the EV variant, stood third with sales of 18,126 units. Nexon sales grew by 17.27% compared to 15,457 units sold a year ago.
Maruti Brezza saw a decline in sales despite continuing to be the best-selling SUV in the segment. Brezza sales fell to 14,124 units from 16,971 units sold in April 2025, resulting in a decline of 16.78%. This could be because the facelifted Brezza is planned to be launched soon. Hyundai Venue recorded one of the strongest performances in the segment, with sales growing 56.17% year-on-year to 12,420 units. Venue sales increased by 4,467 units compared to 7,953 units sold last year. Kia Sonet also registered a healthy growth of 30.60% with sales of 10,537 units.

Hyundai Exeter maintained strong momentum with sales of 8,096 units, up 49.48% from 5,416 units sold in April 2025. Mahindra XUV3XO sales remained almost flat at 7,517 units with a marginal decline of 0.67%. Skoda Kailak recorded sales of 4,089 units in April 2026, which witnessed a decline of 23.77% compared to 5,364 units sold a year ago. Toyota Tasar recorded a marginal growth of 5.33% with sales of 2,550 units.
Nissan Magnite sales stood at 1,775 units with a marginal growth of 1.49%, while Renault Kiger registered a growth of 19.97% with sales of 727 units. Maruti Jimny recorded a strong percentage growth of 60.79%, although volumes remained relatively low at 693 units. The Kia Ciros saw the sharpest decline in the segment. Sales dropped to 554 units from 4,000 units sold in April 2025, resulting in a decline of 86.15%.

On a month-on-month basis, total sub 4 meter SUV sales declined by 2.91% compared to 1,22,710 units sold in March 2026. Both Tata Punch and Nexon saw a decline in MoM, while Maruti Front and Hyundai Xcent recorded healthy sequential growth. Frontex sales grew by 21.16% MoM, while Exeter sales grew by 24.98%.
OEM-wise Sub 4M Analysis
Tata Motors led the sub-compact SUV segment with combined sales of 37,233 units from the Punch and Nexon lineup in April 2026, registering 33.20% year-on-year growth and 31.25% market share. Maruti Suzuki followed with 33,646 units from front, Brezza and Jimny, although the decline of Brezza limited the overall growth to 5.98%.
Hyundai recorded a strong YoY growth of 53.46% with combined sales of Venue and Exeter at 20,516 units. Kia sales declined by 8.10% due to weak Sciros performance despite steady demand for Sonet. Mahindra sales remained largely stable, while Skoda saw a significant decline.
