
Skoda Auto India reported total domestic sales of 5,760 units in May 2026, a decline of 14.5% compared to 6,740 units sold in May 2025. Sales also fell on a month-on-month basis, down 16.4% from 6,886 units recorded in April 2026. Despite the decline, Kylaq remains the brand’s best-selling modelIt accounted for around 60% of Skoda’s total sales during the month. Kushaq emerged as the standout performer in terms of year-on-year growth, with volumes more than doubling compared to the same period last year.
Skoda India Sales Breakup May 2026
The Kylak remained Skoda’s best-selling model in May 2026 with sales of 3,443 units. Compact SUVs contributed 59.8% to the brand’s total sales. However, Kylaq sales declined by 30.4% compared to 4,949 units sold in May 2025. On a month-on-month basis, volumes declined 15.8% compared to 4,089 units sold in April 2026. Even with the decline, Kylaq continues to play a key role in Skoda’s India strategy, accounting for almost three out of every five vehicles sold by the brand.

The Kushaq was the star performer for Skoda in May 2026. The mid-size SUV recorded sales of 1,310 units, a substantial growth of 103.4% compared to 644 units sold in May 2025. SUVs accounted for 22.7% of Skoda’s total sales during the month. While Kushaq recorded strong year-on-year growth, its volumes declined by 29.2% compared to April 2026, when 1,851 units were sold.
The Slavia sedan recorded sales of 861 units in May 2026. This was slightly lower than the 937 units sold in May 2025, a decline of 8.1%. However, on a month-on-month basis, Slavia recorded a marginal growth of 3.7%, better than the 830 units sold in April 2026. The sedan contributed about 15% to Skoda’s total sales during the month.
The flagship Kodiaq SUV recorded sales of 146 units in May 2026. While this represents a decline of 29.8% compared to 208 units sold in May last year, sales improved by 25.9% compared to April 2026 when 116 units were retailed. Skoda is preparing to launch Kodiaq RS in India, bookings will start from June 22.

VW India Sales Breakup May 2026
Volkswagen India recorded total sales of 2,619 units in May 2026, 8.0% lower than 2,848 units sold in May 2025. Sales were also down 7.4% compared to 2,828 units sold in April 2026. The newly launched Taigun continued as Volkswagen’s best-selling model with sales of 1,281 units, registering a growth of 13.8% in May 2025. SUVs contributed about 49% of Volkswagen’s total sales.
The Virtus remained in second place with 1,238 units, although sedan sales declined 27.5% year-on-year. Together, the Taigun and Virtus contribute to over 96% of Volkswagen India’s total volumes. The recently launched Teron contributed 51 units, while the Tiguan contributed 49 units. Volkswagen Golf recorded no sales during the month.
Skoda-VW India Outlook
While both Skoda and Volkswagen reported lower total sales in May 2026 compared to last year, the Kyalq and Taigun continued to drive SUV sales for the two brands. The Kushaq’s three-digit growth was one of the major highlights for Skoda, while the Taigun remained Volkswagen’s strongest performer. Going forward, the Skoda-VW Group will look to strengthen volumes through its SUV portfolio, while maintaining a presence in the sedan segment with the Slavia and Virtus.
