TEKTON lettering stretches across the bonnet, while the front fascia features a full-width light bar joined by an illuminated Nissan logo.
By referring to the SUV as “Baby Patrol”, Nissan is positioning the Tecton as a strong and ambitious offering in the highly competitive midsize SUV segment, just as brands often leverage larger flagship models to increase the appeal of smaller vehicles.
Designed to stand out in the mid-size SUV segment
Based on earlier teasers and recent spy shots, the Tecton adopts a boxy profile with a flat roof, muscular wheel arches and substantial body cladding. The SUV appears larger and more upright than many rivals, helping it establish a distinct identity against rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hayrider, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Renault Duster and Tata Sierra.

Recent test mules revealed several production-ready design elements including the C-shaped LED lighting signature, connected tail lamps, roof rails and large alloy wheels. Nissan has also given the SUV its own front and rear styling treatment, which differentiates it from the Renault Duster despite sharing the same platform underneath.
Inside, the Tecton is expected to share most of its equipment list with the new Renault Duster, featuring unique upholstery, trim finishes and cabin themes. Expected features include dual digital display, ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, wireless smartphone charging, dual-zone climate control and connected car technology. Safety equipment is likely to include six airbags, electronic stability control, 360-degree camera and a comprehensive ADAS suite on higher variants.

Shared powertrain with Duster
The Nissan Tecton is expected to use the same engine options as the new Duster. The entry-level variant could be powered by a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine producing around 100 PS and 160 Nm, paired with a manual gearbox. Higher trims are likely to get a 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine producing 163 PS and 280 Nm, available with both manual and DCT transmission options. Similar to the plans announced for the Duster, Nissan is also expected to introduce a strong hybrid powertrain at a later stage.
Tecton will play a key role in Nissan’s revival strategy in India. Following the launch of the Gravitas MPV earlier this year, the company is now focusing on strengthening its SUV portfolio, with the Tecton positioned as one of its most important products in recent years. Now that the global premiere is confirmed for July 9, more details about the design, features, specifications, and launch timeline are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.
