BMW Motorrad has launched the F 450 GS in India at a starting price of Rs 4.70 lakh (ex-showroom), making it one of the most aggressively priced premium ADV offerings in its segment. The motorcycle is available in three variants – base (Rs 4.70 lakh), Exclusive (Rs 4.90 lakh) and the top-spec GS Trophy (Rs 5.30 lakh). The aggressive pricing is made possible due to local manufacturing in India, positioning the F 450 GS as a key volume driver for BMW Motorrad.

New 450cc twin platform

The F 450 GS is based on BMW’s all-new 450 cc parallel-twin platform, developed in collaboration with TVS Motors. It features a 135-degree offset crankshaft, which aims to deliver a distinctive exhaust note along with superior torque characteristics. The engine produces around 48 hp and 43 Nm and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. This setup is designed for both on-road touring and off-road capability, while staying true to the GS lineage.

Hardware, Design and Key Features

Built on a steel tubular main frame, the F 450 GS gets a robust ADV design with upright ergonomics, long travel suspension and a tall windscreen. It also has a 14-litre fuel tank, which adds to its touring credentials. The bike is equipped with a 6.5-inch TFT instrument cluster with connectivity and navigation support.

Rider assists include Rain, Road and Enduro riding modes as standard, while the GS Trophy Edition gets an additional Enduro Pro mode for more serious off-road use. Other safety features include ABS Pro along with BMW’s electronic rider assists aimed at improving stability and control.

competitively priced

The BMW F 450 GS has entered the fast-growing mid-capacity ADV segment, taking on the Honda NX500. With its twin-cylinder setup and premium features, BMW aims to offer a more sophisticated option in the segment. It is also likely to attract buyers of the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and KTM Duke 390.

With sales facing some pressure in recent months, BMW Motorrad is relying heavily on the new 450cc platform to drive development. Local production, competitive pricing and strong feature list could help the F 450 GS attract a wider group of buyers in India. The introduction of multiple variants allows BMW to meet the needs of different customers, ranging from entry-level ADV buyers to enthusiasts looking for a more hardcore off-road machine in the GS Trophy trim.
