Many thought that the Audi R8 left a big hole in the German carmaker’s famous portfolio and that the Audi TT RS was not worthy enough to be called a direct successor to the R8 supercar. In a surprise move, Audi has recently unveiled its new supercar in the form of the Nuvolari, which is a direct replacement for the R8 and combines the beating heart from Lamborghini.

In 2027, a new supercar from Audi will hit the roads with full force and carry forward the legacy of the R8. Dubbed the Audi Nuvolari, the supercar features the same design ethos as the Concept C, but takes the ‘bonkers’ knobs up a notch. However, only 499 lucky buyers will get the Audi Nuvolari, unlike the R8, which was a supercar for the masses.

It looks like a futuristic version of the R8 from the front and a retro version of the Lamborghini Murcielago from the sides and rear. If you ask us, the Audi Nuvolari looks more like an evolution of the Murcielago than the R8 and we’re not complaining. Wherever you look, you find clean lines with a clutter-free sheet metal design.
The quad-channel LED headlights look like they are inspired by the Bugatti Chiron and at the rear, there is a quad LED tail light design and a single-piece central exhaust system. It has three rectangular air intakes that provide air to a 4.0L twin turbo V8 engine with a plug-in hybrid setup that houses a 7.3 kWh battery pack and three axial flux electric motors, like the one in the Lamborghini Temerario.

Combined, this (relatively) polar bear-friendly supercar with a plug-in hybrid setup has a maximum power of 1,001 PS that can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 2.6 seconds and hit a top speed of 350 km/h. Putting this performance to the ground is Audi’s quattro AWD system and active aerodynamics. This is slightly more than the 1,001 PS Lamborghini Temerario and is only 15 PS less than the maximum power of the Revuelto V12. Just crazy!
Clear interior!
The 7.3 kWh battery pack provides some pure electric driving before the engine even starts. Talking about the engine, it is a mid-mounted unit. Of the three axial motors, two are located on the front axle driving the front wheels and the third axial motor is mounted between the engine and the gearbox. There are five driving modes to choose from – E-Hybrid, Balanced, Dynamic, Dynamic+ and Track.

In Track mode, traction control can be adjusted between Wet, Dry, Race and Off. Inside, we can see a minimalist dashboard like the concept car. A central portrait-style infotainment screen, chunky steering wheel with multiple functions, massive paddle shifters, plush materials on the inside with brushed metal components.
