For a very long time, ultra luxury vehicles have always been sedans (or saloon cars). While sedans remain the dominant ultra luxury vehicle body style, ultra luxury SUVs are beginning to trend. In recent times, the MPV segment has also caught the ultra luxury trend and we have the Lexus LM.
For buyers who think luxury means light and space (literally), these ultra luxury MPVs and vans hold a lot of appeal. Mercedes is also joining the race and is bringing its first Maybach branded MPV in the form of Mercedes-Maybach VLS. let’s take a closer look.

In India, we recently saw the launch of the 2026 V-Class AMG Line in both petrol (V300) and diesel (V00d) engine options. If that’s not luxurious enough, Mercedes-Benz recently introduced the VLE luxury electric MPV. Buyers looking for even more luxury can now rejoice as the company has recently confirmed an ultra luxury Maybach VLS MPV.
Mercedes-Benz Group CEO Ola Källenius confirmed the development during the unveiling of the updated Maybach S-Class in Beijing, China recently. The Mercedes Maybach VLS flagship ultra luxury MPV has not been unveiled yet but has been officially confirmed and will be based on the standard VLS which will share its VAN.EA platform with the recently unveiled VLE.

Both the Mercedes VLE and VLS will be electric offerings and will join the new van line-up being built by the company. Positioned as a grand limousine, the Mercedes Maybach VLS will be the company’s first MPV to bear the Maybach badge. Like the VLE, the VLS and Maybach VLS will take design inspiration from the Vision V concept.
what to expect?
The standard Mercedes VLS will debut soon and is expected to be in production by the end of 2026. The Maybach version will likely arrive in 2027. The Maybach VLS is a response to the growing demand for ultra luxury MPVs in the Asian markets. They offer better space and light with their huge wheelbase as well as flexible seating layouts.

With the Maybach VLS, one can expect luxury lounge seats with massaging, heating and ventilating functions, multiple seating configurations, privacy rear compartment, powered sun shades, a drop-sawn widescreen high-res entertainment screen, a refrigerator, champagne flutes, exquisite materials and craftsmanship.

Powertrain details of the upcoming Mercedes VLS and Mercedes Maybach VLS have not been revealed yet. They will be deployed on the same Van.EA platform as the VLEs. It should be noted that the VLE gets 80 kWh and 115 kWh battery options and the VLS may have larger battery options. Air suspension will also be present for comfort.
