Hyderabad: The great city of Hyderabad is currently in the grip of scorching heat. People are rushing to get out of their homes as the streets of the city are burning with flames. If the conditions are like this outside, the heat waves are suffocating even in homes. In this sequence, the highest recorded temperature of this summer in the city was 43.2 degrees Celsius on Thursday. This is the second time this season that the city has crossed the 43 degree mark.
According to today’s article.. As the intensity of the sun has increased significantly, the sounds of ACs have started coming in homes, government offices, software companies and malls across the city. Fans, coolers and ACs are running continuously 24 hours. Due to this, there has been a tremendous increase in electricity consumption in Greater Hyderabad and new records have been created. The maximum demand for electricity crossed 4,750 MW on Thursday. Officials said that this is the first time in the history of Hyderabad city that such a huge demand for electricity has been recorded.
There has been a huge increase in demand for the last few days in the month of May itself. On 19th of this month the demand for electricity was 4,748 MW. On 20th, due to light cloud cover in the city, the demand reduced to 4,653 MW. However, on the 21st, Bhanu again showed his talent and the demand increased and crossed the 4,750 MW mark. TSSPDCL officials estimate that if the sunshine continues like this in the coming days, the electricity demand in the city will definitely reach 5,000 MW.
Not only the MW demand but also the daily power consumption is being recorded at record levels. While the daily consumption in the city had crossed 100 million units last month, officials estimate that it is likely to reach 105 to 110 million units in view of the scorching heat.
Due to unexpected increase in electricity consumption in the city, substations, transformers and feeders have become overloaded. SPDCL management has taken war-like load adjustment measures because wherever the load is high there is a risk of tripping problems or transformer burning.
As part of this, the authorities charged two new 33KV feeders to the newly constructed 132/33KV substation at Kandukur. The charging process of these feeders started successfully in the presence of SPDCL Rangareddy Zone CGM Pandanayak. Due to this, the load on the Fabcity EHT substation has reduced significantly. The engineers clarified that the installation of these new feeders will provide better power supply to the consumers of Kandukur, Jaitavaram, Pulimamidi, Nedanur, Kothaguda villages and their surrounding areas without any interruption and low-voltage problems.
No matter how stressful the situation is, workers are working day and night to provide uninterrupted power to city residents and officials have asked people to keep ACs at the appropriate temperature (24 degrees Celsius to 26 degrees Celsius) and minimize power usage.
