Mahindra’s upcoming Vision S SUV has once again been spotted testing in the narrow streets of Mussoorie, Uttarakhand. Like the last sighting, two camouflaged test mules were seen driving one after the other in the congested streets of the city by automotive enthusiasts Sanchit and Tony Narula. While the overall design remains largely under wraps, the latest spy shots have revealed an important new detail that clarifies one of the biggest questions surrounding the SUV’s front-end lighting.

Circular LED headlights were never a production specification

Till now, previous test mules of the Vision S were seen with circular LED projector headlights. Since the same setup appeared on several prototypes, it was widely assumed that these could be brought into production. However, the latest spy shots tell a different story.

One of the two test vehicles continues to use circular LED units, which now appear to be temporary assemblies rather than the final lighting package. These lights are very similar to the LED projector units seen on the Thar Possibly it is being used for testing purposes only. However, the second prototype introduces the production-spec headlamp arrangement for the first time.

Production lighting matches the Vision S concept

The newly spotted test mule features vertically stacked projector headlamps located within the bumper along with distinctive features Inverted L-shaped LED daytime running lights. This lighting signature matches that of the Mahindra Vision S concept that was showcased at the Freedom NU event in August 2025.

Unlike the temporary circular setup, the new DRL arrangement closely follows that of the concept vehicle, which shows that Mahindra is remarkably faithful to the original design. The DRLs frame the projector modules in an inverted L shape, while the rest of the front retains the upright SUV stance first previewed with the concept.

Apart from the lighting, the front continues to feature the rectangular grille with multiple vertical slats, a centrally placed Mahindra logo area, chunky bumper design and vertically stacked fog lamp housings, all of which align with what was seen last time.

Two different headlight setups seen together

Interestingly, both the test mules were traveling together in Mussoorie despite wearing different headlight configurations. This indicates that Mahindra is validating various prototype components simultaneously during the development phase.

The presence of production-specific lighting as well as temporary spherical units strongly suggests that the former were never intended for customer vehicles. Instead, it was probably a convenient solution using existing Mahindra parts while the final lighting hardware was still under development.

what to expect

The Vision S is expected to be the first production model based on Mahindra’s new NU_IQ architecture. Industry speculations suggest that it may be named Scorpio Sport or Thar Sport, although the final name is not confirmed yet. The SUV retains its boxy proportions, upright stance and clamshell bonnet from the concept, while staying within the sub-4 meter dimensions.

The last sighting confirms a diesel-powered prototype, while petrol and electric versions are also expected to join the lineup. The interior spy shots reveal that Mahindra will be carrying over several design elements from the concept along with an extensive feature list depending on the variant. Expected to launch sometime in 2027, the Vision S is likely to be the first of Mahindra’s four Vision Concept SUVs to enter production.
