The new Hilux continues to target buyers looking for a tough lifestyle pickup with genuine off-road capability. It will continue to compete with the Isuzu V-Cross in the Indian market. The biggest change in the new Hilux is its exterior styling. Adopting Toyota’s latest global pickup design language, the front fascia is much bolder than before.

The prominent ‘TOYOTA’ lettering has been integrated into the grille in place of the large Toyota logo on the older model, giving the pickup a more rugged look. The new Hilux also gets sleek LED headlamps with integrated DRLs, fog lights, lockable tailgate rear door, rear deck loading step, a sculpted bonnet, redesigned bumper with black skid plate, body-colour grille insert and trapezoidal side trim elements.

The square wheel arches further enhance its muscular stance, while the black painted ORVMs, alloy wheels and door handles add to its sporty appeal. At the rear, the pickup features vertically stacked C-shaped LED tail lamps, large Toyota letters on the tailgate and an integrated rear bumper step for easy access to the cargo bed. India will continue to get the double-cab version.

The cabin got a big upgrade

Inside, Toyota has redesigned the cabin with a more upright dashboard layout that looks both sturdy and premium. The new Hilux comes equipped with dual 12.3-inch screens that include a touchscreen infotainment system and a fully digital instrument cluster. The dashboard and center console are all new with modernity and sophistication.

There’s a dial to cycle between multiple terrain modes (Multi-Terrain Select) and then there’s advanced 4WD driving mode, downhill assist control with TPMS, i-Connect connected features, 7 SRS airbags and more.

Other key features include dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless smartphone charging and a 360-degree surround-view camera. Depending on the variant, the pickup also gets a comprehensive suite of radar-based ADAS features. The same cabin is expected to be available in Fortuner also.

engine options

Globally, the new generation Hilux is available with diesel, 48V mild-hybrid diesel, petrol and even battery-electric powertrain options. However, the India-spec model continues with the familiar 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine. The engine develops 204 PS and 500 Nm with a sole 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Four-wheel drive continues to be offered as standard with the VX trim and optional with the GX trim.

With its refreshed design, more premium interior and added technology, the new Hilux aims to strengthen its appeal among both lifestyle buyers and off-road enthusiasts. While international markets have already moved towards electrified and fully electric versions, the India-spec model continues with the tried and tested diesel powertrain that has built the Hilux’s reputation for durability and off-road capability.
