Maruti Suzuki is preparing to update the Brezza for 2026, and after recent spy shots revealed the new underbody CNG implementation, fresh images now show what appears to be the petrol version of the upcoming facelift. The biggest talking point this time is the presence of an all-new 6-speed manual gearbox – not just for the Brezza, but potentially for the entire existing Maruti portfolio.

Earlier test mules had confirmed that the Brezza will adopt the brand’s new underbody S-CNG layout, which was first introduced with the Victoris. That version focused on improving boot space practicality by relocating the CNG tank under the floor. Now, the focus turns to the petrol version, which seems to bring major mechanical upgrades.

First 6-speed manual for Maruti?

The spy images indicate that the test mule is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission. This is significant as all current Maruti cars on sale in India continue to use a 5-speed manual gearbox. The latest spy shots are credited to Harshit Makkar Vlogs.

Interestingly, in 2018 there were reports that Maruti Suzuki planned to gradually transition its lineup to a 6-speed manual gearbox. However, that move never came to fruition. With this latest Brezza test mule, it appears that those plans may finally be back on track – the Brezza will potentially become the first Maruti model in the current era to adopt a 6-speed manual unit. If offered, the additional ratio could improve highway cruising efficiency, refinement and overall drivability – especially if paired with a more powerful engine option.

Considering Brezza 1.2L Turbo Petrol?

Another major development is the possibility of an all-new engine with the Brezza. Maruti offers its new 1.2 liter turbo petrol engine with the Swift and Dzire, but they come with a 5 speed manual gearbox.

The 1.2 liter turbo engine will allow the Brezza to qualify for the lower GST bracket applicable to cars under 1200 cc, while still offering performance comparable to naturally aspirated options. This could put the Brezza in a more competitive position against rivals that offer turbo-petrol options.

Currently, the Brezza is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 99 bhp and 137.1 Nm in petrol form and 87 bhp and 121.5 Nm in CNG form. The addition of a turbocharged option will significantly increase its appeal.

Internal upgrades seen

The latest spy shots also reveal what appears to be a large infotainment system. The current Brezza gets a 9-inch unit, but the updated model may get a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen in line with the new Maruti offering. There may also be additional feature upgrades aimed at enhancing the cabin’s appeal, potentially including ventilated seats and updated trim elements.

What about the CNG variant?

As previously reported, the 2026 Brezza CNG variant will adopt Maruti’s new underbody S-CNG layout, which will free up significantly more useful boot space compared to the current Brezza CNG. Unlike some rival twin-cylinder setups, Maruti’s approach uses a single large underbody tank, although the spare wheel is expected to be omitted.

Launch Timeline

With several near-production test mules spotted – some even without camouflage – the launch of the 2026 Brezza update could be soon. Maruti has a history of quietly introducing model year updates, and the Brezza may also follow the same path. If the 6-speed manual and new 1.2L turbo engine go into production, the 2026 Brezza could represent one of the most significant mechanical upgrades in Maruti’s recent history.
