Lima (WLIO) – Van Wert High School Punched their ticket to the Division 4 district finals after leading the rally Bath High School 6-1 in Western Buckeye League postseason matchup at Fort Jennings.
Bath broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning when Jaden Miller lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Alex Walls to tag out and score for a 1–0 Wildcat lead.
Van Wert answered in the sixth.
Brayson Davis drove in the tying run with an opposite field hit, before Jess Huebner followed with a ground ball that bounced off the second base bag, scoring two more runs and putting the Cougars up 3–1.
Van Wert continued to add insurance runs, before freshman Easton Putman shut the door in the seventh inning and struck out the side to complete the win.
The Cougars advance to Friday’s Division 4 district final, where they will face Bryan at Fort Jennings.
