Tata Motors’ 2026 has been full of action so far. The company began deliveries of the Sierra SUV and expanded its refreshed lineup with the launch of the Punch facelift, Punch EV facelift, Tiago facelift and Tiago EV facelift. The launch pace was expected to continue, as Tata Motors was widely expected to unveil or launch models from its Avinya range in 2026.

There has been an important development regarding the upcoming Avinya range from Tata Motors, which is set to debut with the launch of the Avinya X coupe SUV. Recent reports indicate that Tata may no longer use JLR’s EMA platform as per the original plan. Instead, the company may adopt the architecture that underpins the recently revealed Freelander EV developed through the Chery-JLR joint venture.

Tata Avinya EV – New Details

Internally codenamed P2, the production spec version of the Tata Avinya It is a modular and scalable platform that supports electrical architectures up to 800V and up to 350 kW DC fast charging.

Earlier, the Tata Avinya Industry sources cited in the report indicated that it had become difficult to commercially justify the adoption of JLR’s EMA architecture for Avinya’s intended positioning and projected volumes, prompting Tata to evaluate alternative solutions.

what to expect?

Tata Motors is probably taking this route to reduce development time and improve cost competitiveness. The company’s engineers are reportedly working on Indianizing this platform to adapt it to our conditions and specifications for maximum cost-effectiveness. Citing people familiar with these developments, the report noted that JLR’s adoption of the EMA platform has become difficult to justify.

The first vehicle to be launched in this new lineup will be the Avinya X coupe SUV and could be followed by a premium three-row electric SUV. Engineering validation of the revised platform strategy is understood to be underway, with prototype testing expected to begin later this year. This would push the launch, launch and production timeline to early or mid-2027. Battery capacities between 65 kWh and 80 kWh are likely to be employed from Tata’s battery venture, Aggregates. It should be noted that Chery is also supplying components to JSW Motors, which could introduce a high level of commonality between the brands operating in India.

In a statement to the publication, Tata Motors confirmed that the first Avinya vehicle to be launched in 2027 will leverage the Freelander platform built by Chery-JLR (CJLR). Production is expected to take place at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility and JLR’s recently inaugurated facility in Panapakkam, Tamil Nadu.
