Yamaha’s FZ range of street fighter motorcycles have become quite popular in markets like India, where the premium commuter segment is important for the OEM. Yamaha has also received a strong reception for the FZ motorcycles in markets like Brazil. Now, Yamaha has launched a new motorcycle in Brazil and it’s giving us some joy.

Yamaha Factor DX

The recently launched Yamaha Factor DX sits on the standard Factor 150 and gets add-ons at additional cost. The DX variant features pack plus accessories as standard including USB charging port (Type-A and Type-C) with main stand for convenience, versatility and assurance.

Yamaha Factor DX is offered in three colors – Titanium Grey, Racing Blue and Midnight Black. Over the standard Factor 150, the Yamaha Factor DX gets new livery with LED DRLs, revised and sportier graphics, painted wheels – gold with midnight black, blue with racing blue and neon orange with titanium grey.

The Factor DX also has a dual tone belly pan finish which gives it a more premium appeal. In terms of design, the Yamaha Factor 150 and Factor DX look like they are inspired by the FZ range sold in India. They get the same headlights and overall silhouette as the FZ, but come with a sleeker and less muscular fuel tank with a longer and more commuter-ish exhaust canister.

In terms of equipment, we can see LED headlights, RSU telescopic front forks, rear twin shock absorbers, single piece seat, single piece grab rail, a small headlight cowl, front disc brakes, rear drum brakes, 18-inch alloy wheels at both ends with 80-section front and 100-section rear Michelin Pilot Street 2 tyres, a fully digital LCD cluster and more.

It has a 15.4 liter fuel tank, while the seat height is 785 mm. Minimum ground clearance is 170 mm and curb weight is 133 kg. It is a 149cc single cylinder, SOHC 2V/cylinder air-cooled engine producing 11.8 bhp and 12.74 Nm with petrol and 12 bhp and 12.74 Nm with ethanol, mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

With the Indian government pushing towards greater amounts of ethanol in our domestic fuel, we can expect more flexible fuel efficient vehicles to be launched here. Some Japanese motorcycle manufacturers have already started offering flex fuel in India, while Yamaha is yet to launch it. Will the Yamaha Factor DX reach our shores? only time will tell.
