Tata Motors recently launched the Tiago facelift in the country and its starting price is Rs 4.69 lakh (ex-sh). This price point is for the base ‘Smart’ petrol MT variant and has been placed there to attract buyers from rival brands. Tata Tiago base variant
The base Tata Tiago facelift is called the Smart Petrol MT variant and is offered at a price of Rs 4.69 lakh (ex-sh). That’s a bit more than the pre-facelift model, but the company is offering more equipment to justify that price.
From the outside, the base Tiago facelift variant can be identified as the base model as it is designed to be offered at a lower price. For starters, we don’t get body colored door handles, which is the primary cheaper option compared to the new chrome-studded door handles offered on the higher variants.
The ORVMs are not painted and get a raw plastic finish. The side turn indicators are mounted on the front quarter panel, not on the ORVMs. These are not ORVM operated, but they are internally adjustable with a stalk. There is no antenna with the base model as it does not offer a music system.
Other missing exterior elements include rear washer and wiper with rear defogger, request sensor for boot release as there is no remote key and central locking. It also does not have wheel covers, which can be installed as accessories. Tata is providing the same wheel arch cladding and C-pillar black elements in the base variant as the top variant, which we saw with the mid variant and the top variant.
internal characteristics
On the inside, Tata is offering similar fabric inserts on the dashboard and door trims even in the base variant. This new dashboard will open up more space inside as it is less protruding than before. There are no power windows on all four corners and even central locking is missing. The music system, speakers, dimmable IRVMs and other elements are absent in the base mode, which is understandable.
The interior lighting is surprisingly LED, the same as the top version and there are also grab handles (soft retractable on the front left and fixed on the rear). The seats are also the same and there is no center armrest at the front. The instrument cluster is the same as the top variant with a new steering wheel with steering-mounted controls to operate the cluster.
It has the same center console as the mid variant without manual AC and wireless charger. The base variant seems to be missing a spare wheel, but the company is offering a puncture repair kit and one can also install a parcel shelf at a nominal cost. The same 1.2L engine with manual gearbox in the top variant is also present in the base variant, but the gear knob is not as attractive.
