Renault has showcased its new RGEP (Renault Group Entry Platform) with an innovative underbody CNG setup, giving a clear indication of what’s to come next for its mass-market lineup. This development closely aligns with the brand’s recently announced FutureReady India strategy, where the top management highlighted a strong push towards multi-energy powertrains tailored for Indian buyers.

During the announcement, Renault Group CEO Francois Provost emphasized India’s role as a major growth market and a center for innovation, while Renault India CEO Stéphane DeBlaze confirmed plans for a diversified portfolio including electrified and alternative fuel options. The RGEP platform with CNG integration appears to be one of the first concrete results of that roadmap.

Underbody CNG – practical and space efficient

The main attraction of this new setup is The dual-cylinder CNG layout has been integrated under the floor of the vehicle. Unlike existing dealer-fit kits that take up boot space, this factory-developed solution makes no compromise on luggage capacity. This is especially important for vehicles like the Triber, where boot usability is a major selling point. By moving the cylinder under the body, Renault not only improves practicality but also ensures better weight distribution and overall packaging efficiency.

New RGEP Platform Will support Kiger and TriberBoth are now expected to get factory-fitted CNG options later this year, possibly around the festive season. Currently, the Triber is offered with a dealer-level CNG kit, which significantly reduces cargo space. The upcoming factory-fit solution is expected to address this limitation. The Kiger is also likely to get the same setup, marking Renault’s entry into the factory-fitted CNG SUV space.

Turbo-CNG 1.0 liter

Another big news is that Renault will launch underbody CNG tank with turbo 1.0 liter engine Option. Yes, thanks to the new RGEP platform, which replaces the existing CMF-A platform. With this new platform, Renault has made the necessary modifications that will allow them to eventually launch the Triber with a turbo petrol engine.

The turbo-petrol engine with CNG is a relatively rare combination in this segment. It can provide better performance than conventional CNG vehicles, as well as lower running costs. Such a setup would be in line with Renault’s broader strategy to offer multi-energy solutions including petrol, hybrid, electric and CNG options in its lineup.

Part of larger FutureReady push

The RGEP platform and underbody CNG integration highlights Renault’s intention to localize solutions specifically for India. As outlined in the FutureReady plan, the company aims to make India one of its top three global markets by 2030, supported by new products and alternative fuel technologies.

As demand for CNG continues to grow in India, especially in price-sensitive segments, Renault’s underbody CNG solution can offer clear advantages over conventional kits. If launched with competitive pricing, the Kiger and Triber CNG variants have the potential to attract a wider customer base looking for lower operating costs without sacrificing practicality.
