In line with changing consumer preferences, the new Hyundai i20 adopts a more angular profile and slightly boxier aesthetic
Hyundai is working on the fourth-gen version of the i20, which is expected to be launched later this year. Test mules have been frequently spotted during road tests in recent months. In the latest development, Hyundai has teased the new i20 for Brazil. The photo shared shows that the new i20 is much more quirky and sporty than its predecessor.
Teaser of new i20 lighting setup released
In the teaser posted by Hyundai Brazil, one can see new Y-shaped LED DRLs placed horizontally like the Lamborghini Revuelto. The hatch also gets an interconnecting full-width LED bar. Distinctive rectangular headlamps can also be seen. These features have already been seen in test mules of the i20. The new-gen i20 has a more upright front fascia and a new grille design.

The side profile also receives some significant changes including more angular and sharper door and window frames and the roofline. While the rounded wheel arches have been retained, the hatch gets sportier alloy wheels. At the rear, the new i20 is expected to get Y-shaped tail lamps, similar to the lighting elements at the front. The front and rear bumper sections are also expected to be refreshed.
The new i20 may see some increase in size in international markets. For example, in Brazil the hatch may be longer. In India, the new i20 will retain its sub-4-metre length to qualify for tax benefits. The current model is 3,995 mm long, 1,775 mm wide, 1,505 mm high and has a wheelbase of 2,580 mm. Hyundai currently manufactures the i20 in India and Türkiye.

Starting with the fourth-generation model, Hyundai will also begin manufacturing the hatch in Brazil. It will be manufactured at Hyundai’s Piracicaba plant in Sao Paulo. Hyundai’s Brazilian plant is already manufacturing other models like HB20, HB20S and Creta. The HB20 and Creta are Hyundai’s best-selling models in Brazil.
Internal upgrades, new features
Matching the exterior design, the interiors of the new i20 are expected to get a sharper, more contemporary makeover. The Tech package is also expected to get a major upgrade, with the addition of the Plios Connect infotainment and connectivity system. However, this has not been officially confirmed yet. One of the test mules seen earlier was seen with a curved dual screen.

The Plios Connect uses a large central display, which integrates the various functions of the infotainment and instrument console. It was recently seen with the new Creta. Feature upgrades expected with the new generation i20 include a refreshed interior theme and updated upholstery. The hatch is expected to get a 360 degree surround view camera and Level 2 ADAS package.
In international markets, the fourth generation Hyundai i20 may have the option of a hybrid powertrain. The existing 1.2-litre petrol engine is expected to be retained in India. It generates 83 PS with a 5-speed manual transmission and 88 PS with the iVT unit. Maximum torque output is 114.7 Nm. The i20 N Line is powered by a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine that makes 120 PS and 172 Nm. Transmission options include 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT.
