
After a long wait, JSW MG Motor India has finally launched the much-awaited MG Majster SUV in India. Positioned as the country’s first “D+ SUV”, the Magister enters the premium full-size SUV segment with a strong focus on size, luxury and off-road capability. Prices start from Rs 40.99 lakh (ex-showroom) The 4×2 automatic is priced at Rs 44.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top trim, while the fully-loaded 4×4 automatic variant is priced at Rs 44.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV will be offered in both 6-seat and 7-seat layouts with a 4×2 version, while the 4×4 trim is available only as a 7-seater. Its direct competition is the Toyota Fortuner, which is priced at Rs 34.76 lakh ex-sh.

Powertrain and off-road hardware
Powering the MG Magister is a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine Produces 215.5 PS and 478.5 Nm of torque. Transmission duties are handled by an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Buyers can choose between 2WD and advanced 4WD configurations.
MG claims that the Magister offers Best in class power figures. The SUV comes with an advanced intelligent 4WD system that has 10 off-road modes. Under normal driving conditions, the system operates in 2WD mode for better efficiency and automatically switches to 4WD when required.

One of the biggest features is the inclusion of the segment-first triple differential lock – front, rear and centre. This setup is designed to improve traction during extreme off-road conditions. MG has also equipped the Magister with crawl control mode, 219 mm ground clearance and 810 mm water wading capability.
The largest SUV in its segment
MG says the Magister is the longest, widest and tallest SUV in its class. It measures 5,046 mm in length, 2,016 mm in width and 1,870 mm in height, while the wheelbase is 2,950 mm. Design highlights include a large mosaic matrix grille, Dragon Eye LED DRLs, tri-beam LED headlamps, connected LED tail lamps and 19-inch alloy wheels. The SUV gets a commanding upright stance with a high bonnet and boxy proportions.

Interestingly, MG first showcased the Magister in February 2026 and had initially hinted at an April launch timeline. However, the launch was delayed. Even now, while production has already begun and prices have finally been announced, details on delivery timelines remain limited as June approaches.
Feature Loaded Cabin
Inside, the MG Magster gets a premium black-themed interior with leather upholstery and a number of luxury-focused features. The front seats are ventilated and come with massage function, memory settings and welcome function. The SUV also gets a column-mounted gear selector and electronic parking brake with auto hold. Security and Ownership Package
MG has equipped the Magister with a Level 2 ADAS suite that includes assisted steering, braking and acceleration functions. Other safety features include ESP, ABS, EBD, traction control, roll movement intervention and 360-degree HD camera. The SUV is offered in four color options – Pearl White, Concrete Grey, Metal Black and Metal Ash. Along with the launch, MG has also introduced its “MG Shield” ownership package for the Magister. These include:

Customers can also opt for extended warranty and prepaid maintenance packages. MG is additionally offering an assured buyback plan with up to 70% buyback value. Bookings for the MG Magister have now started at dealerships and online.
