Ahead of its official launch on July 24, 2026, the new Maruti Brezza facelift has scored a 5-star safety rating in the India NCAP crash test. The updated SUV scored five stars for both adult occupant protection (AOP) and child occupant protection (COP).
India NCAP tested the Brezza ZXI+ equipped with a 1.5-litre petrol engine and 6-speed automatic transmission. The weight of the test vehicle was 1,471 kg. The new Brezza scored 30.41 out of 32 points for adult safety and 43 out of 49 points for child safety. The crash test results have come just a day before Maruti Suzuki launches the facelifted Brezza in India.
New Brezza Facelift – 5 Star Adult Safety
In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the new Brezza scored 14.41 points out of a possible 16. It scored a maximum of 16 out of 16 in the Side Movable Deformable Barrier test. The SUV also successfully passed the side pole impact assessment.
The India NCAP assessment graphic shows good protection for the head and upper body of the driver and front passenger in a frontal crash. Protection was judged adequate for some areas of the legs. The perfect score in the side impact test is particularly noteworthy and contributes to the Brezza’s overall adult safety score of 30.41/32.
Child Occupant Protection – 43/49
The new Brezza facelift also scored five stars for child occupant protection, scoring 43 out of 49. This includes a maximum of 24/24 points in dynamic testing and 12/12 points for child restraint system installation. Vehicle evaluation contributed a maximum of 7 points out of 13. Both 18-month-old and three-year-old child dummies were tested using rear-facing I-Size child seats. ISOFIX and i-Size mounting points on the second-row outboard seats are standard.
Six airbags, ESC standard
The India NCAP report also reveals the safety equipment offered with the new Brezza. The driver and front passenger airbags are combined with curtain airbags and side chest airbags. Front seatbelts get pretensioners and load limiters. ESC is standard, as well as pedestrian protection and seatbelt reminder for the driver, front passenger and rear seat occupants. Importantly, India NCAP says that ESC, curtain airbags, pedestrian protection and seatbelt reminder are standard on all variants included in the rating.
New 1.0L turbo petrol engine listed
The attachment attached to the crash-test report also reveals an interesting detail about the powertrain lineup of the new Brezza. Apart from the familiar 1.5-litre petrol with 6MT and 6AT, the India NCAP lists a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The 1.0L Turbo 6MT is listed in LXI, VXI, ZXI and ZXI+ variants. For the 1.5L 6MT, ratings similarly cover LXI to ZXI+, while the 1.5L 6AT variants are listed VXI, ZXI and ZXI+. This confirms that Maruti Suzuki will introduce a new turbo-petrol option with the Brezza facelift, although full specifications and status should become clear at tomorrow’s launch.
