The next generation version of the famous Toyota Hilux pickup truck is all set to be launched in India. In markets like Thailand, this 9th generation Hilux has debuted as the Hilux Travo and is expected to make its grand debut in India soon as well. The Hilux remains one of the most famous pickup truck nameplates in the world.
With this next-generation model, Toyota is set to modernize this mid-size pickup truck in line with the brand’s latest design and technical standards. The new gen Toyota Hilux will also come with a similar fascia and similar interiors to the Fortuner SUV, which is even more exciting for Indian SUV buyers.
New Hilux India will be launched soon
The India-spec Hilux may be quite similar to the Hilux Travo from Thailand. In terms of design, the 9th generation Hilux retains most of its silhouette while introducing a more aggressive aesthetic. These revised aesthetics can be especially seen along its fascia where we can see smooth LED headlights.
These headlights feature integrated DRLs and are joined by a prominent centerpiece bearing bold “TOYOTA” letters. There is a new honeycomb upper grille along with the lower grille with the ADAS radar module. It may have a large loading area at the rear with an original metal bash plate, larger wheels, LED tail lights.
The Thailand-spec Hilux Travo measures 5,320 mm in length, 1,885 mm in width, 1,815 mm in height and has a 3,085 mm wheelbase, 225 mm ground clearance, 6.3 meter turning radius, 17-inch alloy wheels and an 80L fuel tank. Similar specs may be offered with the India-spec model as well.
major internal overhaul
The most transformative update has been on the interior and this cabin will carry over to its SUV sibling the Fortuner. The entire cabin has been overhauled and features a center 12.3-inch infotainment screen that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay wirelessly. The instrumentation is controlled by a 7-inch screen and this time we get a new steering wheel.
Expected features of the India-spec new gen Hilux include powered seats, JBL audio system, ventilated seats, dual-zone climate control, level-2 ADAS suite, auto-dimming IRVM, driving modes, traction mode, powered rear window in the loading bay, dual glovebox, leather upholstery and more.
Under the bonnet, the new Hilux will retain its proven 2.8L turbo diesel engine with 200 bhp and 500 Nm of torque, which will likely be paired with both manual and automatic gearbox options. A 48V mild hybrid setup is expected to be part of the package, promising up to 10% higher fuel efficiency.
