Mahindra appears to have made the right move with its decision to reposition and refresh the XUV700 as the new XUV7XO. While the SUV was already one of the strongest performers in its segment, sales data for 2026 shows that the updated model has opened up a whole new level of demand.
Since its original launch in September 2021, the XUV700/XUV 7XO family has Total 3,70,594 units sold in India By the end of May 2026. Of these, 3,24,171 units were sold as the XUV700 between September 2021 and December 2025. The redesigned XUV 7XO has already contributed 46,423 units in the first five months of 2026.

XUV700 builds a strong foundation
Mahindra launched the XUV700 in September 2021 as the successor to the XUV500. Due to its combination of size, performance, technology and pricing, the SUV soon became one of the most sought-after products in the company’s portfolio. Despite being on sale for only four months sales crossed 11,964 units in the launch year. Full-year volume increased to 65,371 units in 2022, followed by 74,434 units in 2023 and a Record 90,727 units in 2024.
Monthly average sales of SUVs continue to improve from 2,991 units in 2021 to 5,448 units in 2022, 6,203 units in 2023 and 7,561 units in 2024. However, the pace slowed down a bit in 2025. Annual sales fell to 81,675 units, an average of 6,806 units per month. 10% below 2024 levels. Overall, XUV700 sales stood at 3,24,171 units – an average of 6,234 units per month.

XUV7XO makes an instant impact
Mahindra to introduce extensively updated XUV 7XO in early 2026 Apart from design revisions and feature upgrades, the company repositioned the SUV under its new “XO” naming strategy. Its effect became visible almost immediately.
From January to May 2026, the XUV 7XO recorded sales of 46,423 units, Average of 9,285 units per month. This is the highest monthly average achieved by an SUV since its launch. Compared to the monthly average of 6,806 units in 2025, the XUV 7XO is currently selling 36.4% more units every month. Even when compared to the previous best year, 2024, the monthly volume is up about 23%. Overall average sales of 7XO are approximately 49% higher.

Continuous demand till 2026
Monthly sales performance highlights the stability of demand. It remained comfortably above the 8,500-unit mark every month in 2026, crossing the 10,000-unit mark in January. For perspective, the SUV crossed 10,000 monthly sales only a few times during the XUV700 era, including in October 2024 and October 2025.
Interestingly, the record-breaking sales of the XUV 7XO have come at a time when Mahindra was not manufacturing all the variants in full quantities. The company initially prioritized the production and delivery of high-end trims, while lower variants and entry-level versions were gradually introduced. with Deliveries of the entire variant lineup are now underway In a phased manner, SUV volumes may see additional growth with improved availability at various price points.

What is accelerating development?
It appears that the success of the XUV 7XO stems from a combination of several factors. The refreshed design has given the SUV a more premium look, while the feature additions have helped it remain competitive against new rivals. Mahindra has also benefited from the strong brand equity built by the XUV700 over the last four years. Rather than changing the formula, the company chose to evolve it while keeping the core strengths intact while improving the overall package.
The result is clear in the numbers. The XUV 7XO is currently on track to easily surpass the best annual sales performance achieved by the XUV700. If the current average of 9,285 units per month is maintained, annual sales could cross 1.1 lakh units in 2026. Setting a new record for the model line.
