Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has been a notable ICE 2W manufacturer in the country and has taken a dig at the growing electric scooter segment with the Active E and QC1. Within a short time, Honda had to rein in its EV ambitions. Now, Honda has patented a premium electric motorcycle in India, fueling speculation. let’s take a closer look.
Honda WN7 electric motorcycle patented
In September 2025, Honda unveiled the WN7, its first sports electric motorcycle. It looks like the production-spec version of the Honda EV Fun electric motorcycle concept showcased in November 2024. Honda WN7 has won the prestigious Gold Award at the IF Design Awards 2026, a first for any Honda product.
This electric motorcycle has now been patented in India, increasing speculations about its launch. However, there is a good chance that this is only an IP protection (intellectual property) practice in India. We have seen countless Honda motorcycle patents reach the patent registry, but not the showrooms.
As far as design is concerned, the Honda WN7 electric motorcycle looks pretty futuristic. It has a robotic face with a minimalist approach. It appears to have a single-piece design element that acts as a cover over the frame and battery, along with creating a ‘fuel tank’-like silhouette.
There is a wide handlebar with bar-end circular mirrors. The fascia includes a wide LED DRL and vertically arranged headlights. The single-piece seat with a monocoque subframe looks interesting. It has a single-sided swingarm and this is the side where its mid-mounted motor and drive to the rear disc brake are located, providing a clean appearance on the right side.
What does it offer?
The N in WN7 stands for ‘Naked’, while the W stands for the development concept ‘Be the Wind’ and the 7 stands for Performance Category. Talking about performance, the Honda WN7 is powered by a single electric motor rated at 50.4 KW (peak power, 67.5 bhp) and 100 Nm, which promises similar performance to a 600cc motorcycle.
The Honda WN7 is equipped with a 9.3 kWh battery pack, which promises a range of 130 km on a single charge. It supports fast charging from the CCS2 charging port that can take the battery from 20% to 80% SOC in less than 30 minutes. It has a 5-inch TFT instrument cluster with connected features and weighs 217 kg.
In the UK, the Honda WN7 goes on sale at a starting price of GBP 12,999 (approximately Rs 16.74 lakh). The Honda WN7 is unlikely to launch in India, unlike the Honda Airblade, which was also patented in India, which has better chances of launching in India.
