With increasing advancements in autonomous driving technology, many companies are investing in fully autonomous driving vehicles. Although these have not yet been made accessible to the passenger class, the ride hailing services industry has adopted this cutting-edge technology with Waymo and Tesla in the United States and other players in China.
However, these are passenger EVs equipped with dedicated self-driving technology to create robo taxis and are not natively manufactured robo taxis. Chinese auto giant Geely is set to change this with China’s first purpose-built robo taxi. It is called EVA Cab Robotaxi. let’s take a closer look.
Geely Eva Cab Robotaxi Launched
Unlike repurposed robotaxis, the Geely EVA Cab Robotaxi is built from the ground up as an autonomous driving ride hailing vehicle. Geely EVA Cab Robotaxi was recently launched at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show. It will begin mass production and operations in 2027 in partnership with Afari Technology and Kaokao Mobility.
As far as the design is concerned, the Geely Eva Cab looks attractive and has a futuristic appeal. However, one can easily refer to the Fiat Multipla, one of the most criticized car designs in the world. It has headlights below the windscreen like the Multipla and the LED DRLs flow neatly into the rear view cameras.
Between these headlights is a screen that reads out the robotaxi in pictures, but will show important details in the operational model. The EVA Cab Robotaxi has Rolls-Royce-like suicide rear doors and some body cladding on the doors. The flush door handles are attached and there is a kink in the window line that starts at the rear door.
On the inside, there is no steering wheel or other conventional components like throttle and brake pedals as this is a fully autonomous vehicle. As seen in the concept, the seats also face each other. There’s also an interactive AI bot with digital eyes if you’re interested in that. Geely is promising a premium and spacious interior experience with the EVA cab.
AI Platform
There are up to 43 perception components, including LiDAR and HD cameras, for input with the Geely Eva Cab robotaxi. They identify pedestrians, vehicles and other obstacles. Computing can go up to 1,400 TOPS and has an intervention speed of 350 TPS, making decisions 3X faster than humans.
EVA Cab Robotaxi features a 196 billion-parameter Stage 3.5 large model and H9 solutions that can handle 99% of everyday travel scenarios and even visualize feasible paths on unmarked rural roads. At its core is a WAM (World Action Model) that allows Geely Eva Cab to think and make decisions like a human experienced driver.
