World famous Italian carmaker, Ferrari has dipped its toes into electric mobility by unveiling its first fully electric vehicle. We’re talking about the Ferrari Luce, which recently made its global debut with a revolutionary new exterior design language and a new interior design direction that has got purists excited. let’s take a closer look.
First Ferrari electric car: Luce
Ferrari is known for its spectacular sports cars and supercars, becoming the poster child of automotive excellence. It is a halo brand within the automotive sector and is associated with bright and quirky designs with extreme desirability and visual drama. But the recently unveiled Ferrari Luce is breaking all these in terms of practicality and comes across as conventional.
At least, where the exterior design is concerned, we can see flamboyance take a back seat, making way for a traditional design language. The Ferrari Luce was designed by design firm Lovefrom which is now raising eyebrows for its cool approach. The Lucknow is considered to be Ferrari’s first EV, Ferrari’s first 5-seater and the most practical Ferrari ever.
It has curvy lines, minimalist approach, aerodynamically efficient sheet metal shape and a fairly large glass area. Along the fascia, we can see minimal elements of the body color as black elements dominate the bonnet, grille area and lower bumper. The Luce rides on 23-inch front and 24-inch rear alloy wheels.
The vertically oriented windshield wipers, Ferrari badging on the quarter panel, black applique on the front doors, flush handles for the suicide doors, yellow brake callipers, quad circular LED tail lights are the notable elements. The teardrop shape of the Ferrari Luce gives it a 0.254 cd air drag coefficient, which is not at all unprecedented for a four-door coupe sedan.
minimalist interior design
On the inside, the Ferrari Luce features a clean and user-friendly interior that has stunned the world since the first set of images were published earlier this year. This is where LoveFrom shines with its vast expertise in industrial design, materials and minimalism. The screens are not bulky and the main center screen can also be tilted towards the driver or co-driver.
Samsung’s state-of-the-art custom OLED screen, three-spoke aluminum steering wheel with integrated buttons and toggles, large paddle shifters, jet-fighter-like controls on the roof, analog-style instruments on the summit placed on the steering column, panoramic roof, 21-speaker system and tactile toggles for climate control and center console, e-shifter and key slots are notable elements.
While the interior is retro, the powertrain is not. The Ferrari Luce comes with four electric motors, one at each wheel, for torque vectoring and a combined system output of 1,050 bhp and combined wheel torque of 11,500 rpm in launch control mode. 0-100 km/h speed comes in 2.5 seconds and 0-200 km/h speed comes in 6.8 seconds. Exposed, the Ferrari Luce can touch a top speed of 310 km/h.
That power comes from a 122kWh battery pack that supports 350kWh charging that can add 70kWh of charge in just 20 minutes. The promised range is 530 km on a single charge and Ferrari has also worked on the theatrics with special speakers playing amplified motor vibration sounds for better feedback. Also noteworthy are the rear wheel steering and active suspension.
