Car retail sales grew by 7.22% year-on-year in January 2026 driven by strong demand in the SUV/compact-SUV segment.

After taking a look at wholesaling (from company to dealer), let’s now look at retail sales (from dealer to customer). The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) released vehicle retail data for January 2026, where growth across all sectors was overwhelmingly positive. Total retail sales stood at 27,22,558 units, a growth of 17.61% year-on-year. While passenger vehicle demand improved by 7.22%, it was double-digit growth in two-wheelers (20.82%), commercial vehicles (15.07%) and three-wheelers (18.80%). Tractor sales also increased by 18.80% on year-on-year basis.
