The new Pajero has been spotted undergoing road tests in Europe, revealing its boxy profile and impressive presence
Mitsubishi has announced a major product offensive for global markets, with plans to launch 13 new models by FY2031. The Pajero features prominently in this product plan and will return in a new generation form. Depending on the market, the Pajero has also been sold under names such as Montero and Shogun. A digital render based on the latest teaser and first test mule footage provides a full 360° view of the all-new Pajero.

New Pajero – Design and Features
While retaining its distinctive personality, the new fifth-generation Pajero adopts more contemporary and futuristic styling elements. This design approach is evident with pixel-style lighting elements. The top-mounted LED DRLs are shown in a connected format, with the Mitsubishi logo placed at the top of the grille. The multi slatted grill design complements the overall theme of the vertically placed lighting elements.

As seen in the render images, the new-gen Pajero features a strong bumper design in body-coloured finish and a chunky bonnet. The side profile features square wheel arches and larger wheels, possibly 18-inch or 19-inch units. The wheels have distinctive geometric patterns, similar to the wheel design seen with the test mule seen earlier. Flared wheel arches enhance the side profile of the SUV.

All the pillars have been blackened for a floating roof effect. The new Pajero features conventional door handles, side steps, a largely flat roofline and roof rails. Smooth body paneling is used all around, with distinctive stampings seen at the bottom of the front and rear doors. The ladder-style detailing on the C-pillar hints at the touring capabilities of the SUV.

At the rear of the SUV, there is a shark fin antenna, a roof-mounted spoiler, a slightly raked windshield and a rear wiper. The tail lamps are installed in a connected format and the overall design is similar to the lighting elements seen at the front. The rear bumper also matches the design of the front unit. Compared to the previous generation model, the new Pajero does not have a rear spare tyre.

Display
The new generation Pajero is expected to use a ladder-frame chassis, possibly based on the latest generation Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck platform. This differs from the fourth generation Pajero which used a monocoque/unibody with an integrated ladder frame. The new Pajero is expected to be a more capable off-road vehicle. It will take on rivals like Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, Ford Everest, Isuzu MU-X etc.

Powertrain options for the new Pajero have not been confirmed yet. Depending on the market, engine options can range from twin-turbo diesel to 48V mild-hybrid and plug-in-hybrid (PHEV). The PHEV version is likely to be introduced at a later date. The new Pajero is expected to make its global debut later this year. Although Pajero has a good fan following in India, it is not certain whether the SUV will be launched here or not.
