With its ability to project movies and games, Huawei’s new projector technology can unlock wonderful moments to enjoy with family and friends
Huawei has many innovations in areas such as ADAS systems, LiDAR, infotainment and connectivity, and high-efficiency electric powertrains. In the latest development, Huawei has unveiled an advanced headlamp system during its technology event at the Beijing Auto Show. Part of the xPixel stack, this new technology can project color images onto a screen, similar to a movie projector. This has the potential to make the drive-in-theater experience easily accessible to families and communities. Let’s see the details.
Huawei Movie Projector Headlamps – How does it work?
In normal operation, the headlamp will perform its regular function of providing illumination. However, when the car is parked, the headlights can act as movie projectors. The ability to display color images means that this system can be used to watch movies, web series, sporting events and other video content.
Users will probably need some equipment like a projector screen and stand to keep it in place. Such projector screens and stands may also be offered as accessories when Huawei’s new technology is introduced to the market. More detailed information about Huawei’s movie projector headlamp has not been revealed yet. Specifications like native resolution, brightness, contrast ratio, throw ratio, etc. will help to better understand the real capabilities of the system.
Enthusiasts may not have to wait long, as this new technology is expected to be introduced with the next version of the Huawei AITO M9. It will also be available with other cars such as the Kijing GT7 Shooting Brake and Luxeed V9. Huawei’s xPixel technology has been evolving for years and the movie projection capability is the latest addition.

In its current form, the xPixel Stellato is already functional with the S9. With this high-end luxury electric sedan, the xPixel is used for functions like lane assist. It displays a colored line, which guides the driver to follow the correct path. The current version of xPixel may also offer interactive games for children.

increased security
In addition to its ability to project movies, Huawei’s xPixel technology also improves passenger safety. For example, this technology has the ability to specifically focus on lighting crosswalks. This can be useful in situations where pedestrians are in low-light areas. The xPixel can also illuminate lane markings, which can be quite useful in low-visibility conditions like heavy rain.
Another useful feature is the ability to automatically detect the speed limit and project it in front of the car. xPixel can also detect objects on the road that could be potentially hazardous. Such debris is then exposed, allowing the driver to avoid it safely and in time.

At its technology conference, Huawei showcased several other innovative platforms. One of these is a next-generation LiDAR system with 896 lines. It has the ability to detect potentially dangerous objects up to 14 cm in height. Such objects can be detected from a distance of up to 120 metres, giving the driver ample time to react. Huawei also showcased a new traction control system, which is specifically designed for snow conditions.
