Maruti Suzuki’s Dezire nameplate needs no introduction in the country. It has been on sale in the country since 2008 under both the Swift Dezire and Dezire nameplates. It has been one of the backbones of India’s passenger car segment and even the country’s commercial fleet taxi segment.

Since its debut in 2008, Maruti Suzuki has achieved a major sales milestone with the Dzire. This compact sedan recently achieved the sales figure of 30 lakh units in the country. Maruti Suzuki is celebrating this important occasion. let’s take a closer look.

For many cars on sale in India, the sales milestone is usually celebrated in lakh units. Which is a big achievement for many vehicles even today. For Maruti Suzuki, the sales milestone is celebrated by millions due to its huge volumes and operating efficiency as it is India’s undisputed best-selling car brand by a wide margin.

In March 2026, Maruti Suzuki Dezire achieved the sales milestone of 3 million units, which is equivalent to 30 lakh units. The Dezire is currently India’s best-selling sedan and was also India’s best-selling car in calendar year 2025, where the company managed to sell 2,14,488 units. Having more than 20 lakh customers for Desire is also a big achievement for the company.

First introduced in 2008, it was a sedan over 4 meters in length and was brought in to comply with India’s B segment tax bracket. Dezire has had a remarkable journey spanning four generations in India. In its current fourth-generation avatar, the Dzire is the most premium yet and also offers ambitious features like a sunroof and a 360-degree camera.

Maruti Suzuki Dezire prices start at Rs 6.26 lakh (ex-sh) for the base LXi petrol MT and go up to Rs 9.31 lakh (ex-sh) for the top-spec ZXi+ petrol AMT. The Dzire is powered by Maruti’s new 1.2 liter 3-cylinder Z12 engine, which promises a mileage of 24.79 km/l in petrol and 33.73 km/kg when driven in CNG mode.

The Dzire was the first Maruti Suzuki product in India to achieve a 5 star crash safety rating, awarded by Global NCAP. It brings features like electric sunroof, 360-degree camera, LED lighting, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, auto climate control, cruise control, alloy wheels, Suzuki Connect telematics suite and more.
