Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the leading automaker in India with the current market share of 38.6%, has seen a marginal growth in January 2026. Despite small car sales remaining under pressure, due to strong demand for SUVs and utility vehicles, the company sold a total of 174,529 units last month, up 1% compared to 173,599 units in January 2025. Month-on-month sales declined by 2%. 1,78,646 units were sold in December 2025.

Maruti Dezire was the company’s best-selling model last month and the second best-selling car in India after Nexon. Dezire sales increased to 19,629 units, a year-on-year growth of 28% from 15,383 units sold in the same month last year. This was a positive improvement on a month-on-month basis compared to 19,072 units sold in December 2025.

Maruti Ertiga sales also showed significant improvement last month to 17,892 units, up 26% YoY and 8% YoY. It was followed by Swift hatchback, which sold 17,806 units, a growth of 4% from 17,081 units in January 2025, while MoM sales declined by 5%.

Maruti Brezza sales grew 19% year-on-year to 17,486 units, while its MoM sales fell 1%. However, the Brezza was the fourth best selling SUV in India after the Nexon, Punch and Creta. Maruti Suzuki Baleno, which was the best-selling model in the company lineup in December 2025, slipped to 5th place as sales declined 16% YoY and 24% MoM to 16,782 units.

The new Victoris has received a good response in the Indian markets. Sales of 15,240 units showed MoM growth of 145% from December 2025 sales of 6,210 units. This was followed by WagonR sales of 15,118 units, a decline of 37% YoY, while MoM sales grew by 4%. Frontend sales declined to 13,353 units, while Alto has attracted positive attention along with Eeco van with sales of 12,314 and 11,914 units respectively last month.

Maruti Sales – Vitara, XL6, S-Presso, Ignis, Celerio

Maruti Grand Vitara fell 55% YoY and 18% MoM to 7,030 units. At number 12 on this list was XL6 with 3,820 units sold. While it declined 13% year-on-year, its MoM sales grew 39%. S Presso sales fell sharply to 1,954 units, while Ignis sales also fell by 50% to 1,902 units. However, its MoM sales remained stagnant. Celerio also recorded negative growth with sales of 1,501 units last month.

One point of mention is the Maruti Suzuki Jimny. Although it is receiving tremendous global acceptance, its domestic sales have been weak. However, there was a positive turnaround in sales in the domestic markets in January 2026 with 591 units sold, showing an increase of 263% from 163 units in January 2025. Invicto, Maruti’s most expensive model on sale, has seen a sharp decline in demand, falling to 197 units last month. 556 units and 514 units were sold in January 2025 and December 2025 respectively.
