India’s sub-4-metre SUV segment is set to get more exciting with exciting new models like the Mahindra Vision S and Renault Bridger.
Mahindra currently offers the XUV3XO in the sub-4-metre SUV segment. While the XUV3XO is already one of the popular choices, there are plans to further strengthen the brand’s presence in this segment. To accomplish that task, Mahindra is working on an all-new Vision S SUV. The latest spy shots reveal the side and rear profiles of the SUV. Hats off to automotive enthusiast Karthik for sharing these spy shots.
Mahindra Vision S – Design and Features
While there are several sporty models in the sub-4-metre SUV segment, options with lifestyle SUV appeal and strong design aesthetics are limited. The Thar exists, but its 3-seat format limits its potential for family-oriented users. The Vision S appears to have been specifically designed to fill this gap. It seems that Renault is also working on similar plans, as seen with the Bridger concept.

Both these SUVs have the potential to completely reshape consumer expectations and preferences in the sub-4-meter segment. The latest spy shots of the Vision S reveal a tall, boxy profile, ensuring a powerful presence. The SUV has large windows, which enhance the overall experience of the users. The Vision S features largely straight panels all around, ensuring a clean look for the vehicle.
The Vision S is expected to get larger 19-inch wheels. The square wheel arches of the test mule closely match the design seen with the concept unveiled last year. Other noticeable features include flush door handles, prominent wheel arch cladding and a parallel running window line and roofline. A grab handle can be seen fitted on the A-pillar on the driver’s side.

At the rear, the Vision S has a flat, side-hinged tailgate. With a rear mounted spare tyre, good boot space can be expected with the Vision S. Only a small part of the tail lamp is visible. It is stacked vertically and appears similar to the units seen with the concept model. While this test model looks plain and simple, a wide range of styling and functional accessories are expected to be offered with the Vision S SUV.

Vision S – Performance
The Vision S is based on Mahindra’s new NU_IQ modular monocoque platform. It is an extremely versatile platform, with the ability to support a wide range of powertrains such as petrol, diesel, hybrid and even BEV. It is possible that the powertrain options may be borrowed from the XUV3XO. The petrol variant of Vision S can get a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine. It generates 130 PS and 230 Nm of torque and is paired with 6MT or 6AT transmission.
The diesel variant may use a 1.5-litre turbo diesel unit that produces 117 PS and 300 Nm. Transmission options include 6MT and 6-speed Autoshift+. The Mahindra Vision S will primarily rival the upcoming Renault SUV based on the Bridger concept. Both these SUVs are expected to be launched in 2027.
