ISLAMABAD – A powerful bomb blast near a railway track in Quetta, southwest Pakistan, killed 24 people. 50 people were injured. AFP reported that the blast targeted a train carrying troops in Balochistan and that soldiers were among the dead.

According to a report by Al Jazeera, the explosive blast took place just one kilometer away from the station where the train was about to arrive. Due to the loud explosion, two bogies of the train overturned and caught fire. Black smoke rose in the area. Some vehicles parked near the blast site were also damaged.
Balochistan government officials said they were investigating the blast. This new incident comes exactly a year after a train carrying 400 passengers from Quetta to Peshawar was hijacked in Balochistan province. The Balochistan Liberation Army claimed responsibility for the kidnapping that day. Pakistani security forces killed 16 people that day. 104 passengers were rescued.
