Keeping in mind the neo-retro motorcycle enthusiasts in Japan, Yamaha recently launched the XSR155 on the home turf. The motorcycle is primarily available for sale in select ASEAN markets and has now been made available in the domestic market as well. The launch price in Japan is JPY 490,000 (approximately Rs 2.97 lakh) before 10% consumption tax.
Deliveries are said to begin on June 30 and sales of the XSR155 in Japan are said to be targeted at around 4,000 units per year. Unlike India where the XSR155 has been launched in five colours, Japan only gets three including the black shade which we are jealous of. let’s take a closer look.

2026 Yamaha XSR155 Launch
In India, the Yamaha XSR155 was launched in four colors – Metallic Grey, Metallic Blue, Vivid Red and Greyish Green Metallic. Recently, India Yamaha Motor has launched Metallic Black color for a stunning look. In Japan, the Yamaha XSR155 is offered in only three colors – Light Blueish Gray Metallic 9, Greenish Gray Metallic 2 and then Black Metallic 12.
Light blueish gray metallic 9 looks almost identical to metallic gray in India and greenish gray metallic 2 looks almost identical to greyish green metallic in India. However, Black Metallic 12 is a much more attractive and special color than the Metallic Black available in India.

Black Metallic 12 is also the launch color, which has been heroically placed in all official bureaus and TVC materials. It gets gold pinstriping on the fuel tank and side body panels which adds a lot of character and sophistication. Even the Yamaha logo gets a red background for its white font, which looks classy and elegant.

India-specific vs. Japan-specific
Apart from the black color, there are not many changes between the India-spec and Japan-spec Yamaha XSR155. They both share the same 155cc liquid-cooled VVA engine, diamond chassis, teardrop fuel tank, circular LCD instrument cluster, circular LED headlight, single-piece seat with ribbed pattern, circular tail light, stubby exhaust, USD front forks, rear mono-shock, disc brakes with dual-channel ABS, etc.

They differ mainly in three major areas (apart from color differences in black). The Japan-spec XSR155 gets a new design for its alloy wheels, which look more stylish than the India-spec model. However, there is still 17 inches. The Japan-spec model is tuned differently and makes slightly more power, at 19 PS as opposed to 18.4 PS in India.

Another difference is that the Japan-spec model gets halogen turn indicators. In India we get LED turn indicators. In Japan, the fuel efficiency of the XSR155 is 48.1 km/l. Will India Yamaha Motor introduce this new color in India? only time will tell.
