
After taking a look at the sub 4 meter SUV sales and 4.4 meter SUV sales segment, let’s now take a look at the 4.5 meter to 4.8 meter SUV segment. Sales of this segment stood at 37,763 units in June 2026, registering a healthy growth of 29.29% YoY as compared to 29,209 units sold in June 2025. However, on a month-on-month basis, the segment declined by 4.87% from 39,698 units recorded in May 2026.
4.5 million to 4.8 million SUV sales by June 2026 – Mahindra captures over 77% market share
Mahindra Scorpio/Scorpio N maintained its lead with 14,097 units, up 10.65% from 12,740 units. SUVs captured 37.33% market share, although sales were down 10.63% MoM from May’s 15,774 units. Mahindra XUV7XO was the second best selling model with 9,244 units, registering a strong growth of 43.65% YoY. Its market share increased to 24.48%, while monthly sales remained largely stable with only a 1.01% MoM decline.

Mahindra’s electric XEV 9S took the third position with 4,018 units, which is 10.64% of the segment. Combined, the Scorpio, XUV7XO and XEV 9S alone contributed over 72% of the total segment sales. Tata Harrier/Harrier EV delivered the strongest performance in the segment. With the addition of Harrier EV, sales more than doubled to 2,962 units, up 135.27% year-on-year. On a monthly basis, the Harrier range also improved by 5.22%.
Toyota Fortuner stood at fifth position with 2,514 units, witnessing a decline of 8.35% YoY and 13.46% MoM. Mahindra Tata Safari also recorded good gains, growing 37.85% year-on-year to 1,271 units, while MG Hector/Hector Plus registered 950 units, up 25.50% over last year.

Hyundai Alcazar had a tough month, with sales down 74.11% YoY and 62.65% MoM to 304 units, giving it a market share of just 0.81%. The reason for this huge decline was a fire at a supplier of Hyundai India. Production is back on track this month.
The Jeep Compass sold 117 units, while the Skoda Kodiaq sold 106 units. Jeep Meridian stood second with 84 units. Volkswagen Tiguan recorded a high of 840% YoY growth at 47 units last year from a low base of just five units. The recently launched Volkswagen Tayron added 43 units in its first full month of sales. The Citroen C5 Aircross once again reported no sales during the month.

Q2 2026 – Segment grows nearly 24%
For the April-June 2026 period, cumulative sales reached 1,14,515 units, compared to 92,448 units in Q2 2025, a year-on-year increase of 23.87%. Scorpio/Scorpio N maintained a good lead with 44,590 units, up by 4.49%, followed by XUV7XO with sales of 27,212 units, registering a strong growth of 38.27%. Mahindra XEV 9S contributed 10,762 units during the quarter.
Harrier/Harrier EV emerged as one of the biggest gainers, rising 162.94% year-on-year to 8,322 units, while Toyota Fortuner fell 6.64% to 7,672 units. Mahindra XEV 9e witnessed a 31.10% decline at 5,556 units. Tata Safari rose 12.58% to 3,795 units, while MG Hector/Hector Plus rose 18.26% to 3,349 units. Hyundai Alcazar continued to struggle during the quarter and fell 36.78% to 1,968 units.
Among low-volume models, Skoda Kodiaq declined by 17.30%, Jeep Compass declined by 10.53%, Jeep Meridian declined by 20.44%, while Volkswagen Tiguan rose by 17.12% to 130 units. The Volkswagen Teron contributed 181 units during the quarter, while the Citroen C5 Aircross recorded no sales after selling 56 units in the same period last year.
