Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday (May 23, 2026) said that more than 7,000 women’s committees were formed in Jammu and Kashmir to fight the drug menace and underlined that 81 drug palaces built with smugglers’ black money have been demolished in the Union Territory (UT).
“It is now the duty of the administration to empower these committees and ensure that they can work effectively,” said Mr Sinha, who participated in a march in Shopian in south Kashmir.
Referring to the 43-day anti-drug campaign, Mr Sinha said, “It has now turned into a powerful grassroots movement whose echo is spreading across communities with unstoppable force. About 797 First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed and 894 drug smugglers and smugglers have been put behind bars.”
He said that while 59 smugglers have been arrested under PIT‑NDPS provisions, 81 drug palaces built with the black money of smugglers have been demolished. 101 immovable properties have been attached and confiscated. Other properties worth crores of rupees have been attached,” the LG said.
He said that 457 driving licenses have been suspended. “It has been recommended to cancel the passports of 22 smugglers and cancel the registrations of 606 vehicles,” he said.

Mr. Sinha said that a comprehensive rehabilitation policy is also being prepared. He said, “Our objective is not only to free the youth suffering from drug addiction through de-addiction programs but also to re-integrate them into the mainstream by providing them employment and jobs.”
He said that lakhs of people in Jammu and Kashmir are determined to eliminate narco-terrorism from this paradise land. The Lieutenant Governor said, “Terrorist groups use the proceeds from drugs to buy weapons, and with those weapons the blood of common Kashmiris is being shed. Today I want to say clearly: Be it an officer or anyone in public life, if they are in any way linked to the drug network or support it, they will have to face strict legal consequences. I assure the people that if even the slightest trace of this infection has entered our system, it will be taken to task without any consequences.” Hesitation will be ruthlessly eliminated.”
