What happened
Forest robber Veerappan was interviewed in Sun TV’s ‘Nerukku Ner’ program in 1996. However, some comments were made regarding actress Sukyana. However, Sukanya felt that this had hurt her reputation, so she approached the court. Since then the legal battle is continuing. In 2015, the trial court ruled in favor of Sukanya and ordered compensation.
However, Sun TV Network filed an appeal challenging the court’s decision. Recently the Madras High Court rejected the appeal. With this Sukanya finally got justice. It has been clarified that Rs 10.01 lakh will have to be paid as compensation. The court made interesting comments on this occasion. Sun TV has made it clear that Sun TV has full control over the content of the interview before it is broadcast and the company has the opportunity to review it and remove the defamatory content. It said that despite such an opportunity, objectionable comments were circulated.
