Toyota Innova HiCross facelift test mule spotted under heavy camouflage – may get styling updates, new features and ADAS improvements
Toyota’s hybrid MPV may be ready for its first major update. A heavily camouflaged test mule, believed to be the upcoming Innova HighCross facelift, has been spotted testing on Indian roads for the first time. While the camouflage hides most of the design details, the timing matches perfectly, as the Innova HiCross made its global debut in November 2022, before launching in India in December 2022. If this is indeed the facelift, Toyota is likely preparing the update for launch sometime in 2027.
Toyota Innova HiCross facelift spied
The test mule is covered from bumper to bumper, which suggests Toyota is hiding a lot more than just minor cosmetic changes. The front fascia is almost completely hidden, indicating modifications to the grille, bumper and lighting elements. The current Innova HyCross already has a bold front-end, but Toyota could further sharpen the styling to keep it fresh against new rivals.
From the side, the overall silhouette remains unchanged, which is to be expected from a mid-life facelift. The window lines, roof profile and proportions appear similar to the current model. However, the design of the alloy wheels seems to be similar to the existing wheels.
At the rear too, camouflage hides the bumper and tailgate area. The wraparound tail lamp layout has been retained in the test vehicle, although the interior LED signatures may be updated. There is also likely to be a revised rear bumper and subtle changes to the tailgate.
Major changes can be seen in interior and features
There are no interior pictures available yet, but Toyota could use the facelift opportunity to upgrade the cabin with new upholstery, revised dashboard trims and additional soft-touch materials. Toyota could further enhance its Toyota Safety Sense package with improved ADAS functionality. Feature additions may include:
– Large infotainment system with updated software
– Improved 360-degree camera
– Advanced connected car technology
– Ventilated second row seats in higher variants
– Improvements to Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
– Updated digital instrument cluster
– Enhanced music system with Dolby Atmos
Powertrain is likely to continue unchanged
Mechanically, major changes are unlikely. The facelift is expected to continue with the existing powertrains, which are a 2.0 liter naturally aspirated petrol and a 2.0 liter strong hybrid petrol. It is also likely that Toyota will launch a flex fuel version, the prototype of which has already been showcased. The strong hybrid version has been the biggest contributor to the sales of the Innova Hycross due to its fuel efficiency, and Toyota is unlikely to make significant changes to this setup.

Despite being on sale for over three years, the Innova HiCross continues to be in strong demand. However, with rivals constantly updating their offerings, a mid-cycle refresh would help Toyota keep the MPV competitive while attracting new buyers.
Another reason for Toyota to accelerate the development of the Hycross facelift is the arrival of new competition. Kia has officially announced a hybrid (likely the Sorento HEV) for India, and if it’s priced competitively, it may appeal to buyers beyond the Innova Hycross. A refreshed HyCross with updated styling, additional features and potentially a flex-fuel powertrain will allow Toyota to stay ahead as competition heats up in the premium MPV and three-row SUV space.
