India’s two-wheeler industry recorded strong growth in May 2026 due to healthy domestic demand and strong export momentum. Combined sales of six major manufacturers – Hero MotoCorp, Honda, TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto, Suzuki and Royal Enfield stood at 22,60,635 units, registering a year-on-year growth of 16.55% compared to 19,39,672 units sold in May 2025. Volume growth stood at an impressive 3.21 lakh units.

Domestic sales of the six manufacturers reached 17,94,631 units in May 2026, up 12.83% from 15,90,546 units sold in May 2025. The industry added over 2.04 lakh units to the domestic volume. Hero MotoCorp retained its position as India’s largest two-wheeler maker with domestic sales of 5,36,784 units. The company recorded year-on-year growth of 9.77% and gained a market share of around 30%.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India stood second with 4,59,611 units, up 10.15% year-on-year. TVS Motor emerged as the fastest growing major domestic company, registering sales of 3,84,565 units, up 24.34% compared to May 2025. The company added more than 75,000 units in volume gains.

Bajaj Auto reported domestic sales of 2,09,528 units, registering a growth of 9.46%. Suzuki Motorcycle India recorded a marginal growth of 2.09% with 1,10,028 units, while Royal Enfield recorded the strongest growth rate of 24.13%, selling 94,115 motorcycles during the month. On a month-on-month basis, domestic sales remained largely stable. Hero retained leadership, while TVS and Suzuki recorded double-digit growth in April 2026. Honda, Bajaj and Royal Enfield registered slight declines.

Exports emerged as the largest growth driver during May 2026. Combined exports of the six manufacturers rose 33.48% year-on-year to 4,66,004 units as against 3,49,126 units in May 2025. Bajaj Auto continued to dominate the export markets with shipments of 1,83,676 units, accounting for 39.42% of total exports among the six manufacturers. The company recorded a year-on-year growth of 30.31% and added over 42,000 units.

TVS Motor delivered the strongest export performance among the major players. Exports grew by 48.34% to 1,58,546 units, resulting in a volume increase of over 51,000 units. TVS alone had a share of 34.02% in total exports. Honda stood third with exports up 23.63% at 59,166 units, while Hero MotoCorp recorded the highest percentage growth among mainstream manufacturers. Hero exports increased by 77.95% to 33,284 units.

Suzuki exports rose 5.20% to 22,216 units. Royal Enfield was the only manufacturer among the six to record a decline in exports, with shipments falling 33.01% to 9,116 units. Compared to April 2026, exports declined marginally by 2.61% due to lower shipments from Bajaj and Honda. However, TVS and Suzuki posted strong month-on-month profits, partially offsetting the decline.

Total Sales – Hero maintains lead, TVS narrows gap

Including domestic sales and exports, total two-wheeler sales in May 2026 stood at 22,60,635 units. Hero MotoCorp remained the market leader with 5,70,068 units, representing 25.22% market share. TVS Motor strengthened its position with total sales of 5,43,111 units registering an impressive growth of 30.50% YoY. The company was the biggest volume gainer in the industry by adding 1,26,945 units over May 2025. The gap between Hero and TVS narrowed to less than 27,000 units.

Honda grabbed the third position with total sales of 5,18,777 units, followed by Bajaj Auto with 3,93,204 units. Suzuki crossed the 1.32 lakh mark, while Royal Enfield achieved sales of 1,03,231 motorcycles. On a month-on-month basis, industry sales remained largely stable with a marginal growth of 0.22%. TVS recorded the strongest growth of 19.28%, while Suzuki gained 12.49%. Hero remained stable, while Honda, Bajaj and Royal Enfield recorded declines compared to April 2026.

TVS emerged as the biggest winner – While Hero MotoCorp retained the lead in domestic and overall sales, TVS Motor emerged as the standout performer of May 2026. The company recorded strong growth in both domestic and export markets, resulting in the highest volume growth among all manufacturers.
