When Tesla debuted in India with the launch of the Model Y, the company received a lukewarm response from Indian SUV buyers. Now, Tesla aims to attract more buyers with the launch of the long wheelbase version of the Model Y. Called the Tesla Model YL, this new long wheelbase version is positioned above the Model Y.
Tesla Model YL Launch
Starting with the Model Y, Tesla Inc. has expanded its Indian portfolio with the launch of the Model YL. As far as pricing is concerned, the model YL is priced at Rs 61.99 lakh (ex-sh) and is the company’s first offering in the country with a dual-motor AWD powertrain configuration and a three-row seating option with a 2+2+2 configuration.
Model Y continues to be sold and is offered in two variants, while Model YL is offered in just one variant. The Model Y Premium RWD is priced at Rs 59.89 lakh, the Model Y Premium Long Range RWD is priced at Rs 67.89 lakh and the recently launched model YL Premium AWD is priced at Rs 61.99 lakh (all prices ex-sh).
The Tesla Model YL is offered in six exterior colors and two interior themes. Stealth Gray exterior color and black interior is offered as standard. Opting for Pearl White Multi-Coat and Diamond Black colors will cost you Rs 95,000, Rs 1.25 lakh for Glacier Blue and Rs 1.85 lakh for Ultra Red and Cosmic Silver. Opting for the Zen Gray interior theme will cost an additional Rs 95,000.
19-inch Machina 2.0 alloy wheels are offered as standard fitment with the model YL. India is one of the few countries outside China where Tesla has launched the Model YL. It is manufactured in China and brought to India from Tesla’s Shanghai plant through the CBU route.
What’s new?
In terms of dimensions, the Tesla Model YL has a length of 4,976 mm, width of 1,982 mm, height of 1,668 mm, and a wheelbase of 3,040 mm long, which is 150 mm longer than the standard Model Y. Even though the Model YL Premium AWD is priced more affordable than the Model Y Premium Long Range RWD model, it offers more range at 681 km as opposed to 661 km.
The Tesla Model YL also charges faster as it can cover a distance of 288 km in 15 minutes, while the Tesla Model Y Long Range RWD can cover a distance of 267 km in 15 minutes. Features like 18 speakers and 1 subwoofer music system have also been added to Tesla Model YL. The model YL also gets thigh extensions in the first row seats and the suspension system gets continuously variable damping and drive modes.
Active safety features like a 16-inch first row touchscreen, 8-inch second row touchscreen, 8 exterior cameras, auto emergency braking, forward collision warning, and lane departure avoidance are common between the Model Y and Model YL.
