Skoda and Volkswagen recorded contrasting sales performance in June 2026. While Skoda posted strong double-digit growth led by Kylak, Volkswagen ended the month with a 20% year-on-year decline as Virtus volumes declined sharply. Combined, Skoda and Volkswagen are expected to sell 8,687 cars in June 2026, compared to 8,103 units in June 2025, resulting in a growth of about 7.2%. Compared to combined sales of 8,379 units in May 2026, volumes improved by about 3.7%.
Skoda Sales June 2026 – Kaylak Leads
Skoda sold 6,220 units in June, up 24.05% from 5,014 units sold a year ago. Sales improved by 7.99% compared to May 2026, when the company registered 5,760 units. Kylaq remained Skoda’s biggest volume contributor with 4,039 units, accounting for about 65% of the company’s June sales. It registered 26.38% YoY growth and 17.31% MoM growth.
Slavia also had a strong month with 1,083 units, up 20.87% YoY and 25.78% above MoM. This comes ahead of the Slavia facelift launch on August 18. Kushaq sales stood at 992 units, up 25.25% year-on-year, although volumes declined 24.27% compared to May. The Kodiaq was the only Skoda model to record a year-on-year decline, with 106 units sold, down 18.46%.
20% decline in Volkswagen sales
Volkswagen sold 2,467 units in June 2026, down 20.14% from 3,089 units a year ago. Sales were also down 5.80% from May’s 2,619 units. Virtus remained Volkswagen’s biggest contributor with 1,195 units, but sales declined 32.79% year-on-year. The facelifted Virtus is likely to be launched in the coming weeks. Taigun was close behind at 1,182 units, registering a marginal 1.20% YoY growth. Tiguan contributed 47 units, while Teron added 43 units during the month.
Q2 2026 sales
During Q2 CY2026, Skoda sold 18,866 units, down 1% from 19,056 units in Q2 CY2025. Kylaq led with 11,571 units, but declined 14.35% year-on-year. Kushaq performed excellently, growing 87.16% to 4,153 units. Slavia sales declined 3.71% to 2,774 units, while Kodiaq sales declined 17.30% to 368 units. Volkswagen’s second-quarter sales fell 9.95% to 7,914 units from 8,788 units. Taigun grew 16.15% to 4,006 units, but Virtus declined 29.37% to 3,595 units.
Volkswagen Group India’s strategy in focus
The sales performance also comes at an interesting time for Volkswagen Group’s Indian operations. Earlier this month, reports had revealed that JSW Group is in advanced discussions to acquire a majority stake in Skoda Auto Volkswagen India. The two parties are reportedly still negotiating key aspects such as valuation and future investment, and there is no confirmation yet whether a deal will be completed.
The talks come at a time when Skoda and Volkswagen are doing relatively minor operations in India. Combined sales in Q2 2026 stood at 26,780 units, down 3.8% year-on-year, while the broader passenger vehicle market recorded strong growth during the quarter. The partnership with JSW could potentially bring new investment, help increase localization and improve the utilization of Volkswagen Group’s manufacturing capacity in India.
