New products including 2026 Renault Duster, Nissan Gravit and Tecton are expected to drive volumes in the coming months
Renault and Nissan, two OEMs operating in India with relatively small portfolios, closed January 2026 on a stable note. Positioned at No. 10 and No. 12 respectively on the OEM-wise sales chart, Renault marginally improved its market share to 0.8%, while Nissan retained its share at 0.6%.
Renault, which currently retails the Kwid hatchback, Triber MPV and Kiger compact SUV, reported total sales of around 3,715 units in January 2026. This resulted in a 3% year-on-year decline, although month-on-month volumes were up a sharp 34%, indicating a recovery from a soft December. Nissan, powered only by Magnite in India, recorded 32% YoY growth and 4% MoM growth.

Renault Sales Breakup – January 2026
Triber emerged as Renault’s best-selling model with 2,509 units sold in January 2026, registering a strong growth of 72% compared to 1,456 units sold in January 2025. However, on MoM basis, sales witnessed a marginal decline of 3% compared to December 2025.
Kiger volumes declined to 703 units, reflecting a decline of 7% YoY and 39% MoM, highlighting competitive pressure in the compact SUV segment. Renault’s entry-level hatchback, Kwid, recorded a 12% year-on-year sales decline at 503 units. The entry-level hatchback segment is witnessing an overall slow demand, which has impacted sales across brands.

Looking ahead, Renault has officially unveiled the new Duster on 26 January 2026, with a launch expected in March 2026. Road testing is currently underway. With significant updates in design, features and technology, the new Duster is expected to play a key role in Renault’s revival strategy. It will directly compete with the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, segments which have been consistently delivering strong volumes.

Nissan Sales Breakup – January 2026
Nissan’s January 2026 performance was entirely driven by the Magnite, which accounted for 2,502 units. The brand is now preparing for wider product launches. The Gravitas, a sub-4 meter 7-seater MPV derived from the Triber, is scheduled to launch on 17 February 2026.
Further strengthening its pipeline, Nissan is also working on the 4.2-4.4 meter SUV Tecton, based on the Duster platform. Expected to arrive by mid-2026, the Tecton will target the mid-size SUV segment, competing with the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

With new products in several high-volume segments, both Renault and Nissan are positioning themselves to better capture the Indian market in the next few quarters.
