Mumbai received widespread pre-monsoon rain on Sunday (May 31, 2026) morning, bringing relief from the heat and humidity that has prevailed in the city for the past few days.

Moderate to heavy rainfall occurred in many parts of Mumbai, including the island city, western suburbs and eastern suburbs, with waterlogging also reported in some areas.

Parts of neighboring Navi Mumbai also received heavy rain.

The suburbs of Dadar, Matunga, Khar, Chembur, Mankhurd, Kurla, Santa Cruz, Vile Parle, Andheri and Versova received heavy rainfall in the last one to two hours.

Waterlogging slowed down traffic, causing inconvenience to motorists and commuters in some areas.

A major traffic jam was witnessed due to rain and an accident on the Vashi-bound carriageway of the Sion-Panvel Highway.

Unaware of the sudden downpour without rain gear, many two-wheeler riders were seen taking shelter on flyovers, skywalks and under shop sheds.

There were no immediate reports of any major untoward incident, while civic authorities are monitoring the situation.

Suburban rail services remained unaffected, although some trains were running behind schedule. Officials said no untoward incident was reported on the rail network.
