Nellore District Collector Himanshu Shukla said cleanliness and hygiene will be maintained in the district as per the Swachh Survekshan 2025-26 guidelines.
He met Mayor D. Sujatha, Nellore Municipal Corporation Commissioner O. at the AC Subba Reddy Stadium in Nellore city on Saturday. Nandan and TDP state spokesperson Kotamreddy Giridhar Reddy formally launched the state government’s prestigious cleanliness drive, ‘Operation Clean Sweep’, by carrying brooms and cleaning the premises.
Shri Shukla said that the aim of the campaign is to ensure apparent cleanliness in public places and encourage people’s participation in the movement.
He said, “Sanitation should become a people’s movement and not just the responsibility of the government.”
The month-long cleanliness campaign was launched simultaneously in 123 urban local bodies across the state as part of the Swarnandhra Swachhchandra initiative aimed at ensuring clean urban spaces, efficient solid waste management and improved sanitation infrastructure.
Mr Giridhar Reddy said efforts would be made to take the movement to the grassroots level and transform Nellore into a clean and green city.
